Please Help! Desperate to get my Sapphire R9 290 BF4 to a decent TC in CGMiner...

Hi Guys,

I'm pulling my hair out trying to get another mining rig up and running using the R9 290 Battlefield 4 cards. I have 6 cards but after multiple attemps I'm just starting with 1 card in my rig until I can get it stable.

The problem:
This card will run happily at a thread concurrency of 8192 and intensity of 13 on stock clocks (947 engine & 1250 mem) and also on overclock but gets no more than 450-500k/hash. I simply can't get this card or any of them individually over a thread concurrency of 8192. I get a report from CG Miner saying: Maximum buffer memory device 0 supports says 536870912.

I have CGMiner setup with both a .bat file and referencing a config. The .bat contains the following:

setx GPU_MAx_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
C:\Crypto\cgminer-3.7.2\CGMINER.EXE --config C:\Crypto\cgminer-3.7.2-patched\1_MegaCoin.conf

I have checked the registry and the values are being correctly saved in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Environment

I have the following config set:

{
"pools" : [
{
"name" : "MegaCoin - meg.smalltimeminer",
"url" : "stratum+tcp://meg.smalltimeminer.com:3337",

"thread-concurrency" : "8192",

}

I've tried various versions afeter 2-3 days solid on this until late at night and after trawling through lots of forum threads. I have tried different GPU threads, look-up gaps, worksize at 512 etc...

It will tolerate intensity upto 20 and the hash rate hits about 850 but with such a low thread concurrency it's just all hardware errors over I 13.

I've tried adding Sapphire Trixx, MSI afterburner and all of the Catalyst versions I can find and SDK 2.7 / 2.8 and 2.9. Re-installed from scratch twice and still the same problem. Changed the RAM, changed the risers, swapped the cards, changed the PCI-E slots and I can't think of anything else to change!

Motherboard: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3
Processor: AMD Athlon 2 270 3.4
Ram: 8gig Corsair Vengance (2x4)
PSU: 2 x Corsair 860w Platinum

If anyone can help me understand what CGMiner is doing here I would be very grateful. I still can't work out where this memory bottleneck is and how to fix it. I'd really like to stay with Windows as I want to run CGWatcher and CGRemote which work great with my other rigs. and to be honest I have never even looked at Linux.

Please help!!!!

Posting multiple threads for this won't really help anything, especially since you have already posted in the forum that has people most likely to be able to help you out.

Sorry about that, I posted the first time in the wrong place, it was very late last night when I finally put out the distress call!

Use CGMiner 2.11.4.

OK, Quick update:

16gig of RAM, no change.

I re-installed everything windows 7 64 again and spent the rest of the day trying different configurations of Catalyst / SDK and got nowhere really. I installed Sapphire Trixx again and wound the gpu upto 1000 and the memclock upto 1500 before starting CGMiner and hey presto a thread concurrency 32767. This was also straight after another re-install of catalyst so it could have been that too.

I'm now getting about 830k per card on stock settings and 850k per card solidly on 957 / 1420. 967 / 1420 is OK too but gets a bit warm where I am but gets about 855k. 1000/1500 settings that I see a lot of others using just isn't stable for me and nearly always drops out one of the cards. I'm happy with 850k though!

On another note, I'm trying to run these rigs headless and using Google Remote desktop to access them. This works well but as soon as the monitor is unplugged from the rig and the rig is accessed by chrome the screen resolution reverts to 'mobile device' as the only option. I've tried dummy plugs but no luck there either.

Does anyone else have this problem or is there a better way to remotely access without this happening?

Thanks
