aida64 is good tool as well

When I'm testing for system stability with Aida64, I also get similar immediate -failures with every component ticked. (Stress CPU, Stress FPU, stress Cache, Stress Memory)

However when I un-tick just any one of them and leave the other 3 components ticked and run the test, I don't get any errors.

But I also don't get any temperature rises either. So does this mean un-ticking any one of those components basically breaks the test?

Here's another update, I think I'm running a bit hot, nevertheless, I think I'm going to make it to 4.00Ghz this Chapter! I had no issues whatsoever during the steps from 2.8Ghz to 3.8 Ghz. (Edit: From 2.8Ghz to 3.8Ghz I upped the Bclock and other than that, stuck with 2.8Ghz's settings.)

I might try 4.0Ghz, then if stable, lower the VCore a bit since temperatures are getting hot.

Things are looking up

Overclock Attempt #3 (Success @ 3.8Ghz) (Click to show)

  • This attempt only uses the following changes - everything else is default:
  1. VCore: 1.38V
  2. BClock:  181mHz
  3. CPU Clock Ratio: x21
  4. CPU PLL: 1.88V
  5. LLC: Enabled

  • This attempt's stability was tested with LinX:
    1. Problem Size: 20,000
    2. Passes: 10

  • This attempt's temperatures while running the above test:
  1. Idle: 50C
  2. Load: 90C (Please note, H-T is enabled)

Hello Mike!

I've been reading about your problem and watching your BIOS screenshots and I have a hunch it might be a DRAM related issue.

-DRAM
Are your DRAM sticks rated at 1.65V or 1.5V?, if they're 1.65V, could you please manually set this voltage? (Disable AUTO)
Also adjust the timmings to (8,8,8,24) and leave other settings in AUTO. (It doesn't matter if your DRAM has better latency).

-CPU
There are two settings that causes problems with when overclocking this chip, and are the Turbo mode and the HT, I don't know if you already have turned off both at the same time, but I strongly suggest to do so.

Some chips "don´t like" 20x and some other 21x, so try both in separated runs.

1.3V for the Vcore CPU it´s pretty safe as long as your temps aren't above 80°C, you could try all this settings at once and see how it works.

I wish you luck dude.

Greetings!!

I've set DRAM Voltage manually to 1.66V (1.65V is only achievable with X.M.P Profile1)

Timings are as you've specified. H-T & Turbo are Disabled.

Multiplier is set to 21X, but also tested with 20X.

It's not helping the stability issue. Prime95 - the same cursed core - still gives hardware errors.

All this time I've been messing with DRAM settings to stabilise - different multipliers, uncore and qpi settings, different timings, dram voltages, VTT settings, speed etc... - and now I kinda' feel they're useless in this regard... eh-smiley.gif

They aren't useless they need to be set correct.
Next step, set QPI link to lowest multi but not slow mode.
Set the Ram ratio
Set the Uncore ratio to twice the ram ratio
Set the ram command rate to 2T

See how prime95 runs small ffts

Hmm... The system freezed when I started messing with the RAM

Now after those instructions, I got a BSOD x 01A

Although I couldn't find its implication, I found out that a similar "0x0A" is "unstable RAM/IMC, increase QPI first, if that doesn't work increase vcore"

Also please note that I took the initiative and upped the VTT Voltage to 1.2 as well in regards to your instructions.

Was that being a smartass? Shouln't I have done that?

I upped the VTT Voltage even one notch higher to 1.22V to see if that was the problem.

Got a BSOD 0x1E (VCore increase needed)

Upped the VCore to 1.262V

Let's see what happens...

What did you set the Ram multiplier too and what was the speed?
In your last photo the ram was x8 and uncore x20. X8 and x16 should be more stable. At x8 your ram is at 1400mhz, 1.20v VTT is good for 1066Mhz officially, so raise to 1.26v.

And in your pics you have command rate at 1T, using 2T should also increase stability and require less demand from the IMC.

Set performance enhance to standard.
Set CPU PLL back to auto it will not help apart from give you higher temps.

Why have you dropped vcore to 1.26v from 1.38v? Please set Vcore to a value which gives 1.32v at load with LLC Enabled.

Oh, before we started messing with the RAM, I stepped into 4Ghz with 1.38 VCore and then started dropping it until it was no longer stable. Then set it two notches higher to a more stable point. And by stable I mean some stress testing with LinX (Prime95 as well as LinX still gave fails at that point though...)

My bad as I have not yet uploaded the BIOS for this because I'm constantly changing values at the moment.

However, I've started following you guy's instructions afterwards.

I had 2T Command Rate, 8-8-8-24 timing, x16 Uncore, x8 RAM Multiplier, 1.22V VTT and a VCore of 1.281V, PLL 1.88V (finished the testing just after you posted the PLL part, I will have it lowered in the next try)

Result: System Freeze after some LinX testing.

Edit: RAM is 1528mHz at the moment and my multiplier is 191 X
