Cheapest 1080p? - Page 2

you can do better for that budget. The i5s have great single thread, but the new consoles are all 8 core and consoles drive game design. it hasn't happened yet, but i strongly suspect 8 core will become quite important by 2015.

i threw in a cache SSD just to pump your HD a bit. you may not want it though. it will need some overclock, but it's got the 8 cores. Tried a 4770k, but couldn't make it go. one option, especially if you don't want to oc, is buy an i3, but get a z87 moBo. The i5s aren't really much faster than the i3s if you don't oc, and you would have a machine that will take a 4770k later.

I like the build you posted. I was putting one together on my tablet at work, and then it was time to go. rolleyes.gif

Imagine passing the time putting together your pc on the clock biggrin.gif

Will that cooler be enough to get the 8350 cool, and maybe even a mild (very mild, like 4.0?) overclock?

Edit: Is there much of a difference in ram between 1600-1866-etc? I know the higher the faster, but is there that much of a gap between 1600-1866?

not much. The only use high speed memory has currently is for the AMD apus, which want it because they use it for the GPU. 2133 on those. more if you can get it.

1866 is worth having if it's the same price as 1600. it is a bare tick faster. 2133 is about the same as 1866 though, excepting the amd apu thing.

if you want to drop a bit more cash, i was looking hard at an 7870xt. They're loud and hot and a touch more expensive, but it's basically a 7950 with only 2gb of memory. Quite a bit faster.

The watercooler will allow 5ghz if your chip will take it. The CPU will be pulling over 200w at that point though, which is getting towards what that psu can put out.

if you want both a max overclock and the 7870xt, i suggest bumping up to a 500w psu. having shilka check out the psu situation wouldn't hurt either. That psu is a capstone which is supposed to be good, but you never know. Shilka usually does though.
