Large Temperature Difference Between Cores

Thread Starter
Hi,

I recently modded my Bitfenix Shinobi to fit a Corsair H100i and while overclocking i saw large differences in temperatures between cores. I have read some threads saying that might be related to TIM application, but i am using the stock paste that came with the H100i (seemed very flat and evenly spread). If people suggest to do so i'll reapply some Arctic Silver 5 as TIM later on today. I'm just wondering what this large difference in temps could be.

I do realize that these temps are a little high.

Mobo: ASRock extreme 4
CPU: Core i5-3570K OC to 4.7 GHz
Cooling: Corsair H100i

Hey,
i have i5 3570K @Stock on a ASR Z77 Pro4.
Cooler is a Prolimatech genesis with 2 120mm blue vortex.

Here my idle temps with 18°c room Temp:

Here 21°c room temp with full-load:

What v-core do you use with 4.7Ghz?
What are your stock temperatures?

My voltage is around 1.33 V, but max gets around 1.336 as seen in the pic below. I did another run of prime 95. At idle i have around 33 degrees celsius.

I have an H80i/i7-4770k and noticed this as well. I think a variation upto just under 10 degrees isnt unheard of. I had issues mounting the pump/plate onto the cpu level as the tension from the tubes and the 4 thumbscrew mounting do not make it easy to seat.

What i found helpful was for someone to hold the rad/tubes so there isnt tension, seat the pump/plate as flat as possible, hold it in place with your hand as steady as you can. Bolt all 4 thumbscrews in but dont tighten them down right away, get all 4 on and almost finished then tighten them down so that 1 isnt causing the other end to lift up.

It's the load temps that matter and the difference between core temps is totally normal.

I'm not so much concerned about the difference in temps, but more the magnitude of the difference. In my pics above the difference is 12 and 13 degrees celsius. I think that is a little too much, usually its within about 5-7 degrees.

my 3930k is over a year old and the difference betweeen my coolest and hottest core is 16c. My 2500k had a similar difference. Don't worry about it. It happens.

Your temps are high becuase your motherboard under reports the correct vcore. The Extreme4 is off by about 0.05v, so 1.350v is actually 1.400v.
