Then you probably havent space for comparing the noise with Windforce.
When will you obtain new one?

I am not sure that if i will get a new one or not. because of the sellers in Turkey,we always have hard times about returning defected items.they told me that they saw another problem too.card was artifacting beside the fan problem.and they are going to send the card with the report of their examination to the sapphire reseller in Turkey to detect the cause of the artifacting and the fan problem (i mean me or the card itself) yes you read it right.they told me they cant make a decision until the sapphire reseller approve that i didnt do it and the problem is in the card itself.these things are really so stupid ,sound like a big joke inTurkey unfortunately.but i know that i will wait for the decision of the UNIQUE SAPPHIRE SUPPORT at least 4 days.i have just received it and tested it last night and i returned it today.it had been just hours even not a day..THANK YOU SAPPHIRE

and after 6 minutes of playing crysis 3,the gpu temp reaches 84 degrees and the card starts throotling.Gpu speed reduces to 800-900mhzs..Everything is on default.the auto fan reaches at %51 fan speed at 84 degrees.

so is my card faulty?

i didnt use the switch for my card .it is on SW2 position for my card.you can see it in the link below

http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/faq-page.aspx?fid=2767

what should i do to prevent decreasing gpu speed ? should i hold the gpu temps under 84 degrees?

or how can i arrange the maximum temp as 93-95 degrees instead of 84 degrees?

edit: i have found a hiint on the web .the pic is in the attachment r9290.JPG 75k .JPG file

best regards..

Lol, man, i am sorry i didn't see this thread earlier...
Your card was not faulty. You were using silent mode, which basicaly mean that fan profile is set to lower % and because of this the temps under load are higher... All you had to do was changing the bios to uber mode(sw1)... I have the same temps on silent mode, but on uber mode max temp for the core is 72-75 degrees and 75-77 for vrm.

Hello,

Bought the R9 290 Windforce 3x oc a couple of days ago and been running tests - mainly Unigine Valley 1.0 and Battlefield 4.
I have a i7-4770k @4.2GHz and stock graphics card (1040/1250 MHz). My case is an Antec P182 with 3 Fans (1 Cpu, 1 back which blows out, and 1 front which sucks in), but I've also tested with the case open. Ambient temperature is about 22 C.
Card has BIOS version 015.042.000.003, which I think it's F3L, and has Elpida memory. Also I think the fan profile is set at performance mode (the switch is close to the screw), but I run a custom profile with Sapphire Trixx which sets the fans at 100% speed when it reaches 85°C.
When case is open, after 10 minutes of 100%(or close to) GPU utilization in Battlefield 4, I have 87°C with 100% fan with VRM1 at the same temperature (it seems it always has the same temperature as the graphics chip). VRM2 is about 67°C. These readings remain constant after an hour run-time. No throttling occurs.
With case closed, the graphics chip and VRM1 is at 94°C. Some throttling occurs at the GPU clock, but is temporary.
Temperatures were read with GPU-z v0.7.7.
Sound intensity is not as bad as my previous card (MSI 7970 with GHz bios written), but is still annoying especially with the case open. One of the reasons to buy the card was to not always wear headphones when playing a game.

So, should I send it back and buy a Trixx or PCS, which I've read are the coolest 290 custom cards?

Thanks!

I think that you are on silent mode. On stock the higher temp i saw, was 75 degrees for the core and 77 for VRM1 - an hour loop on Valley. But i am completely stable with -50mV. - max temps around 67-69 for the core and the same for VRM1. Also install gigabyte vga@bios tool and check with it wich is your bios version.

Pls check your asics quality with GPU-Z. Also pls check what is the max VDDC - again with GPU-Z.

I've checked and it was in performance mode. In silent mode when it reaches 84°C it starts throttling, with the same fan profile.
Max VDDC is 1.148V in both cases, but in silent mode it oscillates more.
And VRM 1 is in both cases at the same temperature as the GPU.
It seems that it is something wrong with the card, as yours behaves better. I will send it back.

Edit: BIOS in performance mode is GV-R929OC-4GD_L.F3 and in silent mode is GV-R929OC-4GD_A.F3. ASIC quality is at 70,4%.

You can try to undervolt it a little - try it if it is stable with -50mV.
Or you can change the thermal paste. But yes - the best will be to return it.
