[GameSpot] Sony explains why PlayStation Vita has come up short - Page 6

Did they just realized that? ... I've predicted this like years ago about any game handheld devices when the smartphone touchscreen become affordable for consumers.

The 3DS disagrees with you.

I looked for about an hour and couldn't find anything that really piqued my interest. Most of the top titles are just re-hashes of games that would be better played on the PS3.

That's like currently saying you're looking to pick up a PS4 but decided not to for the same reason. The system was brand spanking new at that time. What do you expect?

Honestly the "Vita has no games!" argument is pretty mute at this point. Sure they might not be quite as versatile or vast as the DS collection but there are still tons of awesome games currently available on the Vita. They aren't just all in one genre/age range either, going from something like Tearaway all the way to something like Killzone.

Even games that aren't technically exclusive to it usually end up going perfectly with the system (Rayman Legends, Hotline Miami, Guacamelee!, etc).

I guess people just reviewed the game library a year or two ago and have it stuck in their mind that it hasn't changed. Hell, I'm not even really a fan of Japanese games and here I still am arguing that the Vita library is not minute....

Sony deserves this failure for the following reasons:

1. No real app support
2. No "killer app" game
3. Making it "apple" hard to put any media that you didn't buy through them(always online)...
4. This should have been a hand held all round entertainment system however they got too greedy and botched it for the reasons above..
5. Nubs still sucked, needs real joysticks
6. Back touch pad was never used more than a gimmick in games

(I Only own playstation consoles)

Actually since the system launched in February 2012 I couldn't have been looking at getting one in 2011 (I did get a 3DS after the price drop in 2011 though).

The game library was fine, for example Uncharted and the MGS collection were already out, but I've already got that stuff for the PS3, same with Killzone now, I don't really want a portable version of games that I have the option of playing on a big beautiful screen. Thus, its own ambitions seem to be somewhat of a downfall. I guess I was looking for something special that was exclusive, not just generally good games.
Redundancy is a big problem with the industry as a whole right now, new games can be hard to justify when they're usually a cut and paste version of a formula I've already played.

Sony is stating the obvious. People have been saying this since it was announced. Personally I love my Vita and my 3DS, since I commute everyday to school they both give me something to do if I don't have school work, or if I a break during work/get there early and have time to kill. I admit I don't get to play them as much as I'd like, but they are still fun to play and get more action than my PS3/PC games. I don't even have any games on my cellphone/tablets, they simply aren't that great in my book.

Why? I used to use a few Nexus devices primarily, and found them to be pretty good for the games I played on them, along with the ability to do more than just games. The Vita is a nice handheld and all, but I really don't prefer buying a device that's only primarily good at doing one thing (basically why I prefer a Xbox One vs a PS4, but that's a whole different discussion).

I can either do gaming on a Vita, or game and do a lot of other general tasks on a Nexus 7 with better specs for around the same price, or just use a smartphone I would likely be carrying around all the time regardless.

I don't own a Vita myself so I can't really say for sure how useful its non-gaming aspects are, but generally speaking, I only hear about gaming on it. If anything, I hear memory cards are super expensive for the size you get, and they're proprietary (the PSP was basically the same in this regard; pretty silly imo).

Sony's console team actually knows what they are talking about but their handheld division is completely clueless. You have to actually make games for a console to sell. The best selling title on the Vita is a remake of a PS2 game. That is not going to cut it. I would have no problem buying a Vita if there was more I wanted to play. However, it's literally a system for playing PSX games in it's current state.

I flipped when that happened! I think every gamer in the world did, mainly because it didn't eat batteries like the Sega GameGear.
