[TechReport] The SSD Endurance Experiment: 500TB update - Page 2

I am very impressed by the metrics and that there are allocated blocks for when the memory dies "retires". SSD's are far more reliable than people give them credit for. Now the article did say that the 840 256GB drive would have had data loss after it started loosing sectors but that was after 100TB of writes which is more than the 'average' user would do in the life of the machine it is in.

Can someone tell me what the verdict is?

Are SSD's life low?

we don't know yet it's an ongoing thing. we just know that TLC based SSD most likely have a low life span.

I'd say lower life span compared to the others. Not low overall.

Good to hear. By the time my samsung 840 256 GB hdd wears out it will be "obsolete" anyways. Unless something out of the ordinary happens. smile.gif

Amazing. It looks like those of us that hopped on the SSD train have nothing to worry about for longevity. thumb.gif

They written over 500 TB on those TLC based ssd, not much speed lost and the size did not shrink yet. That's 137 years of writing if you write 10gb a day every day of the year. I don't know your personal use for an SSD, but to me 10gb a day for 137 years is just fine lol. By the time it get weared down I'll be dead and you could buy a 1000tb ssd for 50$

Didn't stop my refurbished Corsair Force 3 from kicking the bucket after a few months of light use. I checked run time when I got it, and it said 3hrs. I wonder what was wrong with it. sadsmiley.gif I guess with SSDs it pays to buy new.
