can't overclock the fx-6300

Thread Starter
So, I tried to overclock, I changed everything that is recommended to change in bios but still... that's what is happening:

I have an fx-6300 and M5A97 mobo, and one h60 water cooler.

I'm trying all day to OC it, but it ALWAYS fail the stress test of prime95. First I was trying to take it to 4.5 ghz because I saw that lots of people did it with about 1.4v but for me it always fail.(2 last cores stop working on prime95).

Then I tried to take it to 4.2ghz. It should be pretty easy... on the stock voltage the 2 last cores(5 and 6) stoped working, then I increased the voltage to 1.35v it should be more than enough, but it still fails!! after some minutes running prime95 the workers 6 and 5 stop working.

ps: I'm going the changes little by little. I keep increasing the voltage little by little to see if now it won't fail the stress test, but it feels like I will increase it forever and it will always fail.

What is going on???

Download cre temp, take a screenshot of it and upload it here. Want to have a look at your chip's VID.

To run at 4.5ghz, Put the voltage to about 1.45 - 1.47 with a high load line callibration setting and see if that helps. As suggested above, download core temp and monitor the temperatures. The maximum safe temperature for the fx 6300 is 71 degrees (core temp not package temp).

Core temp is package temps. Open core temp and hw monitor side by side and have a look. 4.5Ghz should take at least 1.43v normally within windows when at 100% load.

there it is, not overclocked:

ps: the cpuz shows something around 3010 mhz, but most of the time it's 3500. it's a 3.5ghz cpu

Good VID. The lower the VID the better the overclock. You should need no more than 1.39v for 4.4Ghz. Try that and get back to us smile.gif

Here is the list of everything I changed:

Ai Overclock tuner: MANUAL
CPU RATIO: 22.5 (4.5ghz)
Amd Trubo: DISABLED
CPU/NB Freq: 2000Mhz
HT Link Speed: 2400 Mhz
CPU Spread Spectrum: DISABLED
PCIe Spred Spectrum: DISABLED
CPU Load Line Calib: DISABLED (with this Enabled, the temperatures goes too high)
CPU Manual Voltage: I put 1.45 but it goes to 1.404 after saving settings

Advanced tab:
Core C6 State: DISABLED
HPC Mode: Enabled
APM Master Mode: DISABLED
CPU Fan Profile: Turbo

Here is a picture of it 4.5ghz @1.404v on prime95 small fft, the core 5 stopped working in 3 minutes.

Now I will try to increase the CPU Manual Voltage to 1.47v, I think it will go to 1,42 or 1,43 after I Save and restart the PC.

PS: I think I'm having to put higher numbers on the voltage to get lower numbers because the load line calib is disabled, but this way is better, the temperatures are lower.

Your core in that pic is at 1.32v.
