Jokes on you, they get paid for it and you don't. If you know so much better, do it yourself.

But doing what this site did is just, stupid.

This begs me to ask a question though, and that is, why isn't this our bag?

As in why do we have to sit here, wait for these reviews that make us want to scream (remember the Phenom II X4 reviews where NOBODY put an OC on the Northbridge even though every single educated AMD clocker knows that it makes a huge difference on clocks, sometimes stablity, and certainly performance for those chips, or the Fermi reviews that didn't even try to get the thing running against it's own heat caps to give us an idea of what performance might be like if we, y'know put some effort into it, which of course, was later repeated with the early 290x reviews) bloody murder?

Why don't we have a section, accessible to our best system builders, overclockers, and generally awesome people who will go balls to the wall to put every configuration in the most optimal position possible and then bench the crap out of it, to post insanely in depth, easy to search or for reviews with a catchy name (The Real Overclockers Reviews, or something to that effect), so that people don't have to waste their time with these basic, stupid, inane reviews.

I know we get what I'm suggesting as a forum (dysfunctional) family here, but I'm not talking searching endless threads and forum posts. I'm saying why don't we go the next step and just bury these sites with detailed, in depth, easy to read reviews of this stuff?

I don't think it's a stretch to think we could do this so much better than 90% of the other sites out there. Do you?

Thoughts? Comments?

Agreed. Everyone waits for a reputable user on here over any website anyway, no matter if it's on the nvidia side or AMD side. A mod should make this happen.

you also have to note that the DCII 290x can also be limiting because it's hotter compared to other counterparts and somewhat louder(especially compared to the Sapphire Tri-X varient) and recently, Tom's noted that it does even worse inside a closed case, which is interesting how much of a difference putting this gpu into a case increases temperature.

Noobs they are. I overclocked my stock 290x to 1225/1650 on air and I benched it too. I could do 1250 too but it was well... artifact city by that point so it doesn't count. With a cooler like the DC2, I would expect them to get within range. But nooo.

They release something on the internet. I have the right to criticize it. And i dont need a stupid article to understand the limits of the cards. We have so many results here on ocn. Look 780 ti classi at 1400+ and the 290x at 1350 max

Just cuz they publish crap on the internet, it doesn't mean they know what the five they are doing.

Haha, reminds of when Kyle blew a gasket when ppl got false positives over the ATI Physx Mod from NGOHQ. He went ape crazy and blocked NGOHQ from the forums haha. It's a false positive lol. Do they know everything? Obviously not.

Criticize all you want, it doesn't make much difference. Bear in mind, you have a very small group of performance enthusiasts here and finding super overclocked cards is not difficult on this forum, but if you look at the volume sold we're a drop in the bucket. Those are not the people that reviews sites cater to.

I thought the 290X did ok personally for an air cooled card, my 290's under water refused to budge past 1125mhz even at below 45*C. I currently have a 780ti but I have not tried any overclocking yet, just slapped it in and off I went. Maybe this weekend...

Wait what? VRM temps on the 780ti are "n/a"?

What's so special about the VRMs on that card that they don't get tested?

Is this turning into some "mad because the 290X didn't win" thing? Is it? Please tell me it isn't. I don't give a crap one way or the other what they publish, I just thought it was funny to be so mad about it while they're making enough money to afford a sweet dodge viper.

Oh man, recounting all the hocp shenanigans in their reviews over the years lol. Good times.

Luck of the draw, they got a chip that could only handle 1115 MHz. According to several reviews Hawaii GPUs don't OC that well, possibly because of the high stock clock. I would say 1100-1200 MHz is what the average buyer can expect, unless he's in for an excessive amount of voltage and water cooling.
