As a matter of fact, console shipments may have started on Q2 even. AMD must have shipped silicon to Sony/MS way before retail availability of actual consoles.

Pretty much all of them that were in early consoles because the PS4 came out in mid November AKA a month later Sony stocked up 2 million Playstations for launch and the lead time would have been like half a year or so. Not saying anything strange here you producing the parts takes time putting it together takes time shipping takes time stocking takes time.

And AMD is paid per console produced of course that is about equal with consoles sold as the more demand the more chips AMD needs to supply.

When you take this chip and look at it's intended target and use this is a solid chip and a decent bump up from previous generations.

Reasonable thoughts....? BLASPHEMY!

I don't think people are being reasonable with expectations and OCN is definitely not the target for APUs, obviously.

I just bought a complete system for my mom to trade forex on based around 7850K. Went with 7850k because more GPU shaders than 7700k. I figure it will age better. Will be perfect for her and I can Hybrid crossfire down the road If she needs it. Got 8 GB of 2133 ram, should do the trick.

Edit* I also love how a site that can countenance the existence of a 1000$ Titan, and in many cases defend it to the death, will whine all day about a 50$ price premium on a brand new CPU+GPU on one die that can semi-game at 1080p. Where has the perspective of this community gone???

You know, at the rate AMD is going with CPU performance, it may be better for them to pull a Conroe and just scale up Puma. I mean, Jaguar already has better IPC than K8.

Of course, the irony is that Kaveri is pretty good at low-wattage performance which is what Jaguar and Puma are supposed to excel at. It'd be funny if AMD ended up switching things around where they scale down Excavator or its successor to be optimal in low wattage configs, scale up Puma's successor to work in mid-wattage PCs (remember, Conroe topped out at 65w), and replace the current uber-low power with future ARM SOCs.

That's assuming AMD doesn't pull a complete Conroe and throw out Bulldozer completely, then build off of Puma as the future basis for everything non-ARM.

Be sure to read this article about AMD Media SDK, HSA optimization is coming in the near future and it will bring a pretty big change for AMD in practice.wink.gif

Guys just a random observation here as I just put my 7850K underwater (thank you micro center) and put it at 4.6Ghz

The Single threaded IPC gains are definitely there. For months I have been zerging and WvW in GW2 and have watched my FX8350 sit idly at 4.9Ghz with 64% GPU usage. The moment I got my 7850K up and running and at 4.6GHz I was shocked to see GPU usage at 89% constant and my minimum frame not dip below 22FPS.

I know it's highly situational but the IPC Improvement is there in at least one poorly threaded MMO game. I have a feeling as time goes on and chip set drivers move forward we will see a lot better performance out of this chip.

Either way, poorly coded or not I was not expecting to see such drastic relief of my GPU bottleneck in any game, much less GW2.

IMO, the issue now isn't only how it performs. It's the ridiculous asking price too. It's a bad buy at $190 period.

That seems extremely hard to believe considering the 300MHz lower clock speed combined with the results from all of these reviews.
