So, in practice AMD is rewriting the definition of "core" when it applies to a computer's "central processing unit". Too many people are bashing AMD because they are AMD, but are being blinded by their personal bias to really see the potential of this product. AMD has gone down this path because of what Intel has done in the software market by flooding it with Intel compilers that have bias against any other non-Intel CPU, hence Mantle and huma. Then add in the fact that AMD has combined the "traditional" CPU and GPU cores to "process" information specifically suited to specific types of tasks, the end result is a more efficiency. AMD is solving the same problem with a different solution, and I can see that they are actually on the front of innovation rather than Intel.

Many people do not understand what it HSA and what will bring in the future.wink.gif

Yes, it makes perfect sense, the "there is no bad product, only bad pricing" applies perfectly here. There is a bit of mark-up on some stores, but from what I've read the quoted AMD prices are for 1000 quantities, so the cheapest you're going to get is probably $180 for the A10-7850K, and that seems too much for what you are getting right now.

It comes with a lot of promise, but no concrete things right now. HSA is not even implemented at the driver level yet, the recommended Dual Graphics driver is not out yet (due for February), the Mantle BF4 patch is not out yet either, no games use TrueAudio yet, and to complement all of this the stock CPU performance seems disappointing. The IPC gains are good, but then AMD took the opportunity to lower clockspeeds by just as much because apparently they had to for the 28nm process they are using which favours lower clockspeeds. You still need improvements to CPU performance and thus for an enthusiast this is a bit of a disappointment. Then you have the fact that such a relatively powerful GPU with 512 cores is bottlenecked by the shared RAM bandwidth available. Then there's AMD's weird way of doing things. The highlight is obviously the A8-7600, and they made sure that was the APU that was reviewed most, Hardware Canucks had to go to another source to get an A10-7850K just a day before the NDA lift in order to be able to also review it. The thing is, the APUs that are on sale right now are the A10-7850K and A10-7700K, the A8-7600 will only be on sale sometime during Q1 (some say within a month or so).

I'm pretty shocked by the number of people bagging the intel CPUs for the weak igpu on it. It's like bagging a sports car for the lack of cargo space compared to a cheap truck and saying it's a crappy vehicle.

Discrete GPU is just a lot better still, for the value, for pure performance. Showing benches of an 7850k vs an i7 with igpu is pretty ridiculous.

APUs are awesome but i dont get these with their current price point, an i5 + 7770 is cheaper and would be better. If you want to go budget you can always get an older gen CPU + GPU for stronger performance for a lower cost, unless form factor is important. i5 or Phenom II x4 + 470. I mean the 7850K is literally just a hyperthreaded dualcore, like an i3. That seems pretty weak....

Sorry but two days ago the i3 4310 was $100 and the asus 7750 gddr5 v2 was $80 after mir

Depends how much the bundles with the bf4 costs amd. I got rome 2 with my 4670k and it was priced about the same as some 4670k without rome 2

Because people are comparing the igpus.

And we have no clue really what to expect from an apu that's had optimized code. All we have is what AMD says.

And how is there no way? Actually if you check the anandtech review you see slides that AMD sent them showing a 100% uplift from adding a r7 240 to a a10-7850k so unless you are saying double the performance of a 7750 DDR3 can't beat a 7770. I think even with the 384SP rather than 512 it can stll match or beat it. The reason is quite simple and that is gcn 1.1

The R7 240 has 320 Stream Processors, not 384. Also, it's GCN 1.0, not 1.1.
