Are expectations to be adjusted just because it's AMD?

Of course. Dont you know proper logic man??

Or longer. IMO, the ace up AMD's sleeve is Java 9's planned HSA support some time in 2015, probably later in the year than sooner.

Ok, how about seeing which scales best when 2400Mhz + RAM is used, 7850k or 6800k? Overclocking data would be most welcome as well both on cpu/igpu part, 7850k is on a newer process and might not clock as high or perhaps be more sensitive to high voltage.

This i'm afraid. I REALLY want to like these APU's i REALLY do because something like this will i'm sure be the future in the PC world. I just don't get how although AMD are progressing they seem to be hell bent to stay under 125W. And rather than press home the advantage they chose to lower clocks on the 7xxxK. When they were happy to give us fire breathing 220W Vishera's a few months ago.

HSA/hUMA is a GREAT idea but i hope it doesn't turn into another X64 where we will be waiting YEARS for something to take advantage of it. To have it disabled in the drivers on launch day just sounds ridiculous!! And what software do AMD have to show off the HSA "POWA" in these new APU's....... Nothing as far as i'm aware of (if they HAVE it shows how bad marketing is if no one is aware of these "cool" hUMA aware programs).

And why is everyone getting 7600's to play with i want to see the "mac daddy" 7800K not the lower end stuff. I THINK AMD should (personal opinion here of course):

Forget (for Desktop anyway) all these "power sipping" under 100W parts and crank up the clocks (both GPU/CPU) if you can get the old Vishera stuff upto 5Ghz with AIO liquid coolers. Why not give us some 4.7Ghz/5Ghz Turbo/1Ghz GPU 125W+ "Beast editions"biggrin.gif . We all have 500+ PSU's if we own AMD stuff anyway from all those FX's:p Having something that in CERTAIN benchmarks that is only SLIGHTLY faster than your APU's that are TWO generations old is just absurd.

SteamrollerB cores Pffft!!! Hate to see what "A" was like (though i now know why we never saw it!!). AMD I WANT TO BELEAVE!!!.............. Hell if they can give me 1080P HIGH with 2xAA at +40FPS i would buy them like they were going out of fashion. But even after 5/6.... AND now 7xxxK we are still looking at 720P for a GOOD frame rate. The thing needs MOAR memory bandwidth and even after THREE revisions they still use Dual Channel memory.

I know redesigns cost but STILL!! They STILL haven't in MY eye got up off the floor from the Thuban/FX mess. And i would love to disagree but the poster above who said they should have continued with the STARS Arch is right the whole FX CORE SEEMS LIKE SUCH A MESS. Shame i love AMD to bits really and will be changing to them for my GPU's from next time....... Maybe some of those guys should go light a fire under the CPU guys....... They just can't sort out the pigs ear!! /annoyed with AMD rant

Thanx.

you forget true audio, this is assuming that amd allows true audio on the apu with nvidia gpus...not to mention any future hsa enable software compatibility.

AnotherMisdirectedDummy=anyone that thought this could compete with Intel

Anyone else see what's going on with prices on Newegg? First the 7770K was $170 which was already high, now it's at $180 and the 7850K is at $200.

I hope the 7600 goes up for sale soon, that's the one I'm gonna buy.

Point was that expecting this to compete with a current gen Intel CPU with similar or even lower pricing on a gaming rig with a discrete GPU is dreaming.

And no.

Actually, reading through the massive number of past threads, expectations were:

A) Better CPU performance than previous generation
B) Better GPU performance than previous generation
C) Significantly lower power consumption
D) Demonstrable benefits of HSA
E) Beats Haswell on a price / performance basis

I guess one out of five ain't bad, right? biggrin.gif

The worry here is a lack of support.

- Trueaudio: no compatible applications
- Mantle: no compatible applications
- HSA: no compatible applications
- OpenCL 2.0: no compatible applications

It seems like every AMD launch, we're told about all these cool upcoming technologies....that aren't implemented in software until the NEXT generation rolls around. I understand that being first is great for PR but for once, I would like to see AMD introduce a technology with more in-place support.

They were foolish to launch desktop SKUs first. The biggest gains are in the 45W and below ranges. This is clearly a mobile chip, and what they've done is delay mobile and launch desktop first. Silly move, this does not look like it was designed with a 95W TDP in mind and yet that's what they decide to launch with. Not doing yourselves any favors AMD.
