Athlon ii x4 760K: BIOS says 32C, HWmonitor says 70C, Core Temp says 0C.

The machine in question:

Athlon ii x4 760K Black Edition + Silverstone Heliogen passive cooler (with Phanteks 140mm fan just behind it)
Asus A88XM-A
4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz
Aerocool Dead Silence Case
GTX 660
Samsung 840 EVO 120GB

Whenever I go into my BIOS, it reports my CPU at a healthy 30C to 32C. I touch the heatsink to make sure it's not hot.

I go into Windows, start HWMonitor and it reports it at like 70C! Then it goes all the way down to 48C but the heatsink is still cold. No core temps are given, just the package temp.

Restarting to see if the BIOS temp has changed.

EDIT: Went back into BIOS and the CPU temps are still around 30C there. What's causing HWMonitor to have such high temps? Also, I re-mounted the heatsink twice. The thermal paste is spread very nicely across it.

EDIT2: Did Windows Experience Index to put stress on the CPU. CPU usage went to 100% and HWMonitor went to like 80C. Went back into the BIOS and the BIOS said 37C, which makes a lot more sense. Can I just reject the HWMonitor's package temp?

EDIT3: Installed Core Temp. Lists all cores as 0C. What is going on? Should I just trust the BIOS reading?

The BIOS reading will ALWAYS be the most accurate. Core temp is really hit and miss with a lot of chips. HWMonitor is probably bugged as well. It reports my +12v output as 7.97 when it's actually 11.9 in the BIOS tongue.gif

Try using HWInfo. Rest assured though, your temps are probably fine. If it wasn't, you'd at least be able to tell the difference by means of touching the heatsink.
