Yes, sure. The R7 240 and 250 GPUs are supported for dual graphics. The R7 series and R9 270X series of graphics cards are all excellent choices for upgrading the discrete class GPU built into the APU.

So... the A10-7850K can only be paired in Dual Graphics mode with a 320 or 384 Stream Processor GPU ? How does that make sense ? Why can't it be paired with the HD 7750, which has the same number of processors, for example ? As far as I know the R7 240 and 250 are not even GCN 1.1, at least they don't have support for True Audio, so if they are the exact same architecture as the HD 7750, what's the problem ?

Is this some sort of artificial limitation to preserve higher discrete GPU offerings ? Is the information on WCCF true that only DDR3 equipped cards will work ? Good luck trying to explain that to customers if that is true. In fact, if that is true, you're already late to provide the explanation. Going by your suggestion some people might have already purchased a GDDR5 equipped R7 250 only to find out it doesn't work.

I don't get why Dual Graphics should be so limited. You'll essentially be getting at most sub R7 260X performance with the suggested pairings. Well, given the limited DDR3 bandwidth and much lower clockspeed of the APUs GPU, I'd guess more close to HD 7770 performance with increased frametimes compared to a discrete solution. Not really worth the hassle for such diminute improvement.

Also, by the way, why does the R7 250 cost so much on Newegg and Amazon ? It costs the same as the HD 7750, yet has 128 fewer GCN cores. It doesn't make any sense.

hi Chris,
yes those are the ones we're recommending.

What do you mean by "recommending" ? It this some sort of Quad SLI scenario where Nvidia doesn't officially support it or recommend it, but it works ? Will other configurations actually work but you won't recommend it, is that it ?

By the way, is that information final ? It's just that according to AnandTech, the current Beta driver does not have support for Dual Graphics (or at least it's not recommended to run it to the degree that AnandTech didn't bother).

Another disclaimer is that AMD recommends testing dual graphics solutions with their 13.350 driver build, which due out in February. Whereas for today's review we were sent their 13.300 beta 14 and RC2 builds (which at this time have yet to be assigned an official Catalyst version number).

Also, why is it that AMD keeps releasing new products with Beta drivers ? I'm not even talking about releasing a WHQL driver, since I know it takes time to validate them with Microsoft, I would just like to know why you tie your liability to the WHQL process. Can't you just release a final driver with a new product where you - AMD - take responsibility instead of telling customers that they are on their own with the famous "AS IS" disclaimer ?

I don't know why anyone would even bother with dual graphics. What tests I've seen before, they work horribly and support is nonexistent. You are better off getting a more powerful discrete card. Now of course if they could use the APU asynchronously with the discrete card through Mantle the could be benefits, but I doubt we'll see it anytime soon.
