Better or worse than the g45

Some have recommended this board to me. However, I cannot seem to get much info on it. Seems like it should be between the g45 and g55, but it is cheaper and doesn't have the same NIC or audio solution. So I cannot figure out where this board fits.

Seems to have the same VRM. It just misses few features from G45 Gaming like you've already mentioned.

There is no real correlation between the model numbers an which one is "better". MSI has part numbers all over the place, better to look at specific features to determine what the best value is.

The G55 is a general purpose mid-range Z87 board, without flashy heat sinks or a gaming color scheme.

The G45 is almost identical to the G55 except the color scheme of the board (red and black) and a different NIC and Sound chipset on it. Whether or not there is any tangible benefit with the "Killer" network chipset is debatable, since 99.99% of the latency and network I/O problems are on the Internet, and the remaining 0.01% are between your local PC and your home router.

There's no "G5" board that I can tell. Mistyped GD65 maybe? The GD65 is a G45 but with an extra SATA controller for 2 more ports, direct voltage measurement points for confirming voltages with a multi-meter, and Tri-CrossfireX (only Dual SLI though) support.

Z87 MPOWER is the top board in MSI's lineup, has everything the GD65 has plus an mSATA port, better VRM design than all of the previous boards for higher OC stability, and built-in Wi Fi.

Sorry that was suppose to say g55. I corrected it. I guess I am trying to pick an 1150 board and trying to find the best bang for my buck that will allow me to OC a 4670k to at least 4.

4Ghz is such low overclock that it will achievable with most of the boards. The turbo (auto-overclock) frequency of 4770K is like 3.9Ghz and 3.8Ghz for 4670K which is not to far from 4Ghz.

G45 is definitely a good choice at that price. The second best is probably ASRock Z87 Extreme4.
