The 7850K Charity Build

Long story short, I will be jumping to FM2+ in the next week or so (actually already have) to help a friend get through the last two years of school she's facing.

I will be giving her my current (re:Sig) rig minus Case, OS, and HDD and building myself a 7850K rig, with an ASrock A88 Extreme 6+, Visiontek R9 290 (pre water blocked), and 2400mhz ram.

I will post photos as I go. Meanwhile check out the AMD CPU section as I already have Kaveri underwater if you want some info and benches.

Let me know if you need any parts. I may have some stuff lying around that I would send you for cost of shipping. That's cool that you are helping her out!

Thanks so much man I might take you up on that if you got any decent ram lying around. Otherwise the way I planned it all she needs to contribute is a case ( which she is dying to pick out, girls will be girls), and an HDD( because I refuse to let her lose all her school and program stuff twice, so, redundancy). I think I have the rest covered.

Gonna be interesting getting Kaveri to 5.0 GHz and seeing if it can keep up with a water blocked 290 at 1440p but I can dream.

Hmm, pardon my asking, isn't it sort of redundant to pay "extra" for an APU and then get a high end GPU on top of that?

Subbed because I'm really interested in seeing how this rig will play out since, for all the discussion to be had EVERYWHERE, I can't really make something out of the 7850k.

I thought the same thing, which is why I did it. Honestly, I'm just sick of AM3+. I've watercooled a 5Ghz FX8350. There is like, nowhere to go from there. Plus I'm willing to take the risk (for Benchmarking Science) to see if Kaveri is going to do everything it claims it's going to do with HSA and using the GCN cores as FP and Physics cores when paired alongside something like an 290X.

Nonethless I will post pics as I am doing the rebuild of everything all at once. Though I have the guts and my loop up and running (though very sloppy) for day to day use, I'm waiting till I have everything to make it nice and presentable as myself and my friend Deanna are building the two rigs together (yes I'm going to make her build hers) and I'm trying to time it so we both do it on the same day so she can just leave with a fully functioning computer.

So just know I haven't forgotten about this. I currently have a ton of benches of Kaveri and a few with my 290X and Kaveri as well in the AMD CPU forum.
