nope but i turn of those "power saving features"

target tdp should be on that list.. that is how i fixed my board to no do that anymore

well that really did validate me thinking that the TDP is choking the apu.

and dropping 700mhz on the cores not effecting gaming? bull crap.... it defiantly effects synthetic benches.. so i would think it would effect real games aswell..

you must be really pushing that chip for it to hit its TDP so hard, my 8150 on stock, 290X underclocked a little and both combined wont use much more then 200W, so 4 steam cores and 512GCN shaders using 100W doesn't quite seem right...

things like CnQ you want left enabled or they can give some bad effects, does the iGPU have its own voltage control or is it tied with the core voltage? if you're only after a little more CPU horsepower you don't want to be pushing the iGPU much as it will eat the majority of the power.

Can't make a x86_64 cpu without x86 license.

Its actually the same encoding but with prefix byte for extra registers and address modes, and a few instructions removed.

Nvidia would love to get ahold of x86 license, only having arm is actually a big problem for them.
Hate to derail this further, but I believe several Linux distros are supported on ARM, and practically no mobile devices run x86. Tablets? Everything but the Surface Pro is ARM. Chromebooks? Several are ARM (I think). Phones? Duh. Nvidia could actually make APUs of their own for that market and be reasonably successful.

So don't bother overclocking the CPU - maybe even downclock it - and turn the GPU and RAM up to their maximums?

Hi, I'm an A10-7850K and Extreme 6+ owner which could come in your Help regarding the throttling issue:
As you noticed the throttling is related to drawn power, and so basically the system is making the APU running on a lower P-State, what I've done is to change the P-states with the use of AMDmsrtweaker in its 1.1 version (in fact you can just change p-state number 5, which is the state where the CPU is put when GPU is loaded).

What is also tricky and I don't think many of you have noticed is that GPU, when the entire APU (CPU+GPU) is loaded, makes "jumps" between the frequency you have set in the bios and 450Mhz, causing stuttering and other annoying things (you can see it with a GPU clock graph like the one in MSI Afterburner).
To avoid these jumps you should first install the latest beta version of MSI Afterburner, and then in the setting disabling ULPS and activate the unofficial overclocking mode without Powerplay support. After rebooting you have just to move the slider around GPU Core, it's not important to change the value, but just to make the button "Apply" pushable. Once you'll push "Apply" the frequency will be stuck at the frequency you put in the Bios.

The CPU trick (with AMDmsrtweaker) and the GPU trick are temporary, meaning that at every reboot you will have to run the customized .bat file (CPU) and do the "Apply trick" in MSI Afterburner.

Enjoyzzz thumb.gif

nvidia already make "APUs", its just with ARM cores and not HSA compliant, but they make for mobile devices and there's only so much they can do.

and both linux and windows support ARM now, (windows RT and server is supposed to have an ARM version at some point...), so its not like we cant use ARM for things, its just not nearly as powerful and widespread as x86-64 is already.

ARMv8, or the new 64bit ARM chips will be much friendlier to problems involving internal cpu parallelism, and longer pipelines, It is very possible you could see Intel's stangelhold on the cpu market lessened by a strong upword moving army of ARM chips. And should Intels lead either faulter for any period of time, the end of the road of die shrinks be hit they will be in for a world of hurt.
AMD's opteron A1100 is supposed to use 8 ARM cores @2GHz, 20W TDP, ideally this would be great for web and database servers if HSA doesn't work suitably for them, these servers deal with as much as hundreds to thousands of tasks at a time so threading isn't a problem.
