If you are planning on ever going dual cards, I would take paired 770's over paired 280 (7970)'s every time. I had both 770's in SLI and 7970's in Crossfire and had a much better overall experience with Nvidia.

Thanks for the tip, the shadowplay feature is also a massive draw point for me choosing an Nvidia as it would save me £100 on a capture device BUT my only concern is I wouldn't get best possible streaming as compared to capture device that I was going to use on my laptop so streaming would put no additional strain on my gaming rig. I know AMD has issues with crossfire still which is why it generally underperforms compared to SLI but I'm hoping that will be fixed soon by AMD, so I'm still unsure but gradually swaying more towards a 280x as Mantle and True Audio seem incredibly promising for future prospects which may swing the Nvidia compatibility dominance around to AMD favour

However, if you can't or don't want to deal with the heat/noise then the 770 might be a better choice, 290 and 770 aren't that far apart in terms of performance.

I know the 290 would be the best option but I just can't justify shelling out the extra money especially when I'd have to either wait for after market coolers to come out or the price for current ones to go down. Ideally if I had the money I'd just get 2 Titans or 2 290x's and have done with it, but I'm on a budget that I keep increasing the more I delve into trying to get the best possible build at the best possible price frown.gif

But why ?

It's £50 more than the 280x I'm probably going to buy and it doesn't come with BF4 so that's another £25/30, is it really worth the extra £80 I'd have to spend ?

We have laws which prevent price fixing tongue.gif

The 280x + BF4 is £226 and the 770 is £270

The only affect mining is having on us over here is the lack of stock for the AMD cards, but I'm patient to wait if it saves me money

That's pretty cool, yeah then the R9 280x is the best choice.

ASUS/MSI probably have the best cooler right now for the card, so best to get one of those.

The Sapphire Toxic I thought had the best cooler no ?

I was going for the gigabyte windforce as it has good enough stock temps and I don't really intend to overclock the card

ASUS/MSI probably have the best cooler right now for the card, so best to get one of those.

The Sapphire Toxic I thought had the best cooler no ?

I was going for the gigabyte windforce as it has good enough stock temps and I don't really intend to overclock the card

If you don't intend to overclock then it will be more of a factor of which are the most quiet and best looking to you.
All are good really, I haven't heard anything about the Toxic (R9 cooler), but I have heard good things from the ASUS / MSI / Windforce coolers.

And if you hate the color red, then maybe the windforce cooler will be the best option there haha
