$400 - $500 to spend on a CPU & Motherboard. What to buy?

Hey OC.net,

I'm looking to upgrade my PC within the next few weeks an I'll be needing a new CPU an Motherboard, My new Corsair Vengeance Pro 1600Mhz 8GB Ram will be here tomorrow as I had to send it back on warranty. thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif . With that this means I only have the CPU and Motherboard to upgrade an I'm a little loss on where to go.

Now I'm happy to spend $400 an could expand to $500 if I really needed to, although I'd like to keep it as close to $400 as I can. I'm still a little confused on to go Intel, AMD or wait until the next generation of Intel an AMD as I can probably wait until then. With trying to keep it at $400 I was thinking of AMD but the AMD motherboards look pretty horrible compared to Intel, but that's only on the looks an I'm not to sure how to compare a motherboard.

Here's my ideas;
Intel i5 4670K : http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=187_1490&products_id=23494
Gigabyte GA-Z87-HD3 : http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_1491&products_id=23565
Total: $424 + Postage

My main problem is I really don't know how to compare Motherboards an such, an this Gigabyte board looked to be pretty good for the price point.

My Main Interests are Gaming for this, although I would like to try Video/Photo Editing, Music DJing an such when I have time to see if It's something I'd like to get into, so mainly the PC is used for Gaming but I also like to try other things too.

Thanks!

I would go with the i7 4770K if you can, and yeah like what was mentioned below, the motherboards suggested are good to go.

I'm guessing you are suggesting the i7 for the Extra Cores, would you recommend I wait until the next Generation? As I can wait.

Light video/photo editing does not need an i7, a good OC of around 4.2ghz paired with a decent GPU Nvidia/AMD with CUDA or OpenCL, you will be fine, i have no need for an i7 passed my 2500k, it does all of the tasks you mentioned and more.
