I'll edit my post to reflect the fact that I was incorrect but, you're still breaking the rules, so...

I also don't really understand why you'd openly use a VPN to play a game over Origin since, you're actually logging through Origin's servers to Respawn's servers...You're literally adding a hop and a routing table for, nothing...Or for those trying to "play early" you're literally adding multiple hops, tables and international tables to the entire schematic, including Origin's routing servers...That just doesn't make sense but, whatever.

Except the people doing it aren't actually using the vpn to play the game. They are using the vpn when logging in to origin. That's it. Once logged in they can disconnect the vpn and play the game as normal on their local servers. I don't think logging in to origin can be deemed as illegal by origin. No purchases are made while using the vpn, no games are played. It's just using a vpn and happening to fire up origin while doing so.

That's actually not how that routing path works...

We know this because of the Escapist article in regards to South Africa -- This quote in particular:
Quote:
The problem, according to a message on Origin, is simply one of performance: Titanfall relies on Microsoft Azure servers and there are none close enough to South Africa to provide a decent ping and thus a proper experience.

We're being routed THROUGH Origin's service, to the Microsoft servers, to Respawn.

So, you're actually still routing through that VPN by which you initially connected...and if you're not, you're flagging yourself because now you're connected from 2 separate physical locations.

Above and beyond that, you're giving EA causation because if you're connected by VPN to Origin, you most likely purchased products through Origin from a different region (Go back to previous post #1) while you're connected to Respawn's servers through you local LAN...So, they're actually pinging each-other cross-continents...

In the Beta it was a direct connect but, we were told the pathway would change once Origin was fully implemented.

You actually couldn't raise a bigger red flag if you tried by connecting to Origin via a VPN and then logging into the game "normally"...

Just sayin thumb.gif

Yeah, i'm not saying it isn't a "red flag" , but even origin themselves have said in that instance all they will do is "look in to it". Also assuming as you say " if you're connected by VPN to Origin, you most likely purchased products through Origin from a different region" because someone gains access to a game early via vpn is clutching at straws. I don't really see the issue with it. If you purchase the game legit, and use a vpn to avoid geo blocking i don't see that as doing anything definitively illegal. But it is murky i guess. I know people who accessed bf4 early and still have their origin account in tact. Just sayin' biggrin.gif

Oh yeah, I'm not saying early access is the issue at all. I'm saying developers have been complaining about cross-region purchases which, is what a tremendous amount of people are now doing, alongside VPN's. This creates an issue. The game was priced for that region specifically by the distributor but, it hurts the bottom dollar so, now the studio is effected. This ultimately leads to them 100% region locking games in the future, which is bad for us all. In fact, it's already happening in certain titles...

The VPN issue here is that if you're actually connected to Origin via a VPN, you're also logging into the game. Regardless of how the route works, you're still pinging back and forth to that VPN via Origin.

So if you're in Jersey City, NJ, using a Seattle VPN, you're now logged into Origin in Seattle but, connecting to Respawn VIA east coast Origin to Azure...So, the Seattle Origin is pinging the NJ Origin on the back end going "Okay, erm, Houston, we have a problem".

Above/beyond that, there was no "geo blocking" in Titanfall at all...I was playing with my tech buddies in Paris from like 1am -> 4am so...By using a VPN you're really just creating unnecessary attention and pretty much forcing their hand.

Early access is meh. It is what it is, EA will do what they want regardless of what Respawn says but, the point here, within the 4 corners of this specific discussion is that using a VPN for Titanfall is really kind of stupid.

Nice one guy can play on a controller and do moderately well in a FPS...go him? Against a more casual crowd (as opposed to something like CS) using aim assist in games where gun spray patterns/precision are non-existent...

People will still get early access.. People will still find the best deal on games. Nothing you can say on overclock will change that.

Your definition of a "deal" is something that the developers and distributors don't consider a "deal".

You're essentially buying region-locked cased games that were opened and had the serials stripped out, then sold...This is nothing new.

As we move forward and studios lose more money, they WILL do something about it.

In fact, they've already started to...It's already started with the Xbox One...Notice the region lock? In particular: 0X87DE07D1

You're right though, nothing I say or do here will influence the masses...So, you'll have to wait and see what happens.

PS: Saving $15 at the expense of another region and a studio, is not a "deal", just FYI.

I'm moving on from this discussion, though; finished this job early. -- Going to go home in a bit and play some Titanfall. thumb.gif
