Cryorig has a very good mounting system, yet peeps whine and moan about how hard it is to mount too. rolleyes.gif

Well the top plate doesn't even need the screws to stay in place because the heatpipe things on top give enough friction by itself. I never bothered to put the screws back in mine tongue.gif

They just need to make some tabs or use small magnets to hold the top plate in place so it doesn't look ghetto and problem solved biggrin.gif

Does people complain about the Cryorig ones? Its the same way noctua coolers are installed .-.

I still have mine on the box even though i am on EK water cooling loop setup I still am holding on to the Dark Pro 3 since it works really well and I have a easy system how to install and remove it fast. biggrin.gif

Yes, I've seen several complain about it because they can't see to align the cooler's mounting screws to the mount, especially if motherboard is mounted in the case. These same people never bother doing a practice / trial mount to know where to set the cooler. There is a certain amount of 'common sense' aka mechanical dexterity / skills involved. Many people out there have trouble replacing a light bulb, so I guess we can't expect them to not whine about installing a cooler. tongue.gif
I now, that's maybe a bit harsh, but sadly it is true.

Hey doyll, yea the true is that the process takes a bit longer than replacing a Hyper 212 or Noctua NH-D14 or D15 Cooler but not by much. I had issues with the D14 installation were the screw didn't want to go in and took longer than installing the Dark Pro 3. I guess it comes down to how often you do it and building a process. I can uninstall and re-install the Dark Pro 3 pretty fast and already have the tools in a location to deal with just that cooler.

I personally like the cool because is looks good, it is pretty quite for sure and even though it may not perform always on the Noctua NH-D15 level it is still an impressive good looking cooler. So in my opinion this Dark Pro 3 is not bad once you learn how to work with it and the installation process. I can't complain as I picked up this cooler for $60.00 biggrin.gif

Hey guys, I'm planning an i7-6850k build on the Gigabyte X99 Designare EX. I find the Dark Rock series to be more visually pleasing than Noctua heatsinks while offering similar performance, so I would like to give it a try for this new build. I'm picking between the Dark Rock 3 and the Dark Rock Pro 3, I need your professional opinion.

1. I'm planning to overclock the CPU to whatever's stable at ~1.25V. Is the Dark Rock 3 sufficient to cool the CPU at around this OC range?

2. I'm currently able to cool my 3770k passively on light loads (web browsing) with the NH-D15 with a custom speedfan profile, the fans pretty much only turn on when I'm running simulation software or when I'm gaming. Can I expect the same out of the DR3/DRP3?

3. Would either cooler block the first PCIe slot on said motherboard?

Visually, I'm leaning towards the DR3. But if the DRP3 is needed to fulfill the points listed above, I'll go for that. Thank you very much!

I would say it can handle the CPU just fine. It only fall behind by 2-5 degrees from the noctua nh-d15 at higher OC clocks around 4.6Ghz+ depending on setup cooling setup and ambient temps. However is much quieter at lower setup. I gave away my NH d15 for the dark pro 3. Under my setup, and ambient I didn't see much difference between the two coolers except the dark pro 3 looks much better.

Thanks! It's nice to know that the Pro version ticks the boxes. Do you perchance know whether the non-Pro version is able to do that though?

The Non-Pro should be able to do it the only different is the fan configuration that could affect higher OC. You can add one more fan later on, but I think that the cooler will be slightly behind from the NH-D14/D15/D15S due to the lack of extra fans. I could be wrong maybe someone with more experience on the non-pro cooler can provide more info to your question. I can't give you an honest opinion on it and performance as I only own the D14, D15 and the Pro 3. thumb.gif
