Ordered this beauty (and a beast!) during weekend. Still waiting it to arrive. Hope it comes tomorrow. Was even cheaper than Noctua.
Dark Rock 3, Dark Rock Pro 3 and Shadow Rock Slim (coming soon) actually come with upgraded SilentWings 2 installed. They look the same as SW2 but already have the six-pole motor that will be featured in the SilentWings 3 fan series later this year. SW3 will look different which is why we don't communicate the fans being SW3 on the latest coolers. But the difference in silence is already there.

Hi OCN,

After installing ASUS R9 280X (looks awesome btw) the D14 looks so ugly under it (RV04 case). I would like to replace it with something black.

The DR3 PRO is too big and expensive for my taste so I'm looking at the Dark Rock 3.

I can't find any side-by-side comparison of the two cooler.

Can anyone tell me how far is DR 3 behind from DR3 PRO ?

Hey,

You could head over to Tweaktown. There are both coolers in the comparison chart. Not much of a difference in their system actually smile.gif

Thank you Chris! I have a very similar system.

Going to order the Dark Rock 3 tomorrow. Maybe I can even get my money back if I sell my D14.

Mounting this cooler while motherboard was installed in case was a nightmare. Took me over 2 hours to get it done. The worst mounting hardware ever. It was so hard to mount I totally screwed up with thermal paste but I'm still getting nice cooling performance. Fans are inaudible in my setup up to 1100rpm. After that it gets LOUD very fast. Though at 1100rpm I can hear coilwhine from PSU and my 2.5" external drive under the desk. 1100rpm will provide sufficient cooling. Maybe hook up third fan if I receive mounting hardware for it. Didn't come with my cooler. ?

Anyway after finally mounting and booting I noticed I'm missing 4GB of ram. Windows only shows 8GB instead of 12GB. This is known issue with x58 chipset. The cooler is so heavy it's making the cpu lose good contact. I supported it but it didn't help. It would probably fix itself if I took the cooler off and reseated the cpu but mounting of the cooler was so tough I'm not going to do that anytime soon.

oh boy does it look gorgeous.

Have you tried re-seating the RAM? I only ask because I did this recently on my CH V F-Z board and lost 8 of my 12GB... popped them out and back in again = perfect. Seems far more likely than poor CPU contact affecting ONLY the RAM..

Yes. Three times. I switched them to different slots. Then I googled and found a lot of discussion about this problem. Some needed to play with ram settings but since mine was already working with stock settings, only plausible reason is the bad cpu contact or motherboard short out.
http://i4memory.com/showthread.php?t=19200 Also my board is in quite bad shape around the mounting holes. Overtightened my previous cooler. Left some noticeable markings.

Ah, that sucks. OK. I was sure you'd have tried it already but figured I'd ask anyway smile.gif

Been through that with a couple of boardss...it is a real PITA. It affected the P55 boards, also. Mine was never due to weight, though, always happened with high pressure mounts.
