And a letter from Travis....

dr_bowtie...

Do me a favor and remind everyone that whatever is in the database at DFI-Street belongs to DFI-Street (as well as each individual's post belongs in part to the poster as well as DFI-Street). I've seen many idiotic posts as well as many posts that are just uninformed where people are saying they want to snitch whatever data they can through google's cache (or even more retarded, they think they want to sue me to release the database info? lol) and then post it up freely and openly.

I'll have to explain that this is not a good idea. In the last 3+ years, you can be assured that I've paid plenty (you know how much lawyers charge) for legal counsel on what is and isn't proper, true and legal about the data on DFI-Street.com. If anyone had bothered to read DFI-Street's EULA when registering, or the legal.htm page, they would have seen that by registering and posting, they had agreed that everything became DFI-Street.com's property as soon as the post button was pressed and the page refreshed.

I already feel like **** about having to lock every member out of the forum and lock down the data like I have, but keep in mind that the site and most of the major bits of information are my own IP, and I have to protect that since it is my own labor and money that went into making it.

I guess this is where I start sounding like the total jerk that everyone thinks I am. But the reality is that I worked my arse off over the years to create that site, and the EULA clearly stated that when you registered, you agreed that all content you put on the site was now the property of DFI-Street.com. This is standard practice at almost any forum these days.

Anyway, I am telling you this as I feel like you understand a bit about who I am and you would understand what I am saying here and maybe relate it to the boys that it's necessary to just calm down and not do anything foolish because I would absolutely hate to be an ass.

Sorry this is all happening. Maybe your campaign can do some good and this can all be salvaged. We'll just have to be patient and wait and see.

Travis.

I thought I would post this...as we that posted info there agreed to the terms and conditions of the forum....

Not a bad letter. However, I did go in and take my latest OCDB entry info out of the cache. I'm sorry, I'm taking it whether he likes it or no. However I very much doubt that he has a problem with my taking my own OCDB info.

Thread Starter
I fully agree, and he has a right to stopping people from reposting information contained on his site, but it doesn't mean he can stop people from reading it, i'm not informing people of some backdoor procedure to hack into the dfi-street DB, i'm pointing people to a service already "openly" offered by google. If happy games has beef he needs to take it up with google for caching his website rather than the individual members who still want to use the street for their DFI problems.

I for one think happy games need to realise people are doing this because they still want to use the street for their DFI problems. Otherwise there are a plethora of other sites out there with people completely willing to help you with your DFI problems. If he starts going around calling people idiotic for trying to keep people interested in the street while it is shutdown then he is quickly going to lose whatever member base he has left (which i'd imagine is dropping with every day the street is down)
