Windows Tablet Question

Thread Starter
If I get a Dell Tablet that is running Windows 8.1 would I be able to use the VLC player install it etc? I would like to get the Dell Venue 8 Pro but want to make sure it runs things like my movies like mkv files. Also google talk is their something I can use to have that on the windows tablet as well?

Thanks

As long as the device runs Windows 8 Pro, most Windows x86 software will work. I've got an Asus Transformer T100 which has the same CPU as the Dell Venue 8 Pro and it's working fairly well. Alas, I'm finding Windows 8.1 to be a bit of a headache in both desktop and tablet mode. I find myself preferring Windows 7 for desktop and either Android or iOS for tablet. eh-smiley.gif

That said, so far, I've had no issues using MPC-HC for playback of 720p anime MKV streamed from the file server. I'm not sure about Google Talk, though. If it's available for Windows x86, then yeah, it should work on the Venue 8 Pro.

Well I've tried searching for an answer for my question but cannot seem to find the answer, is it possible to install Windows on any of the Dell venue 7 tablets that have android on them? Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask but came across this thread in my searches and I can't be the only person wondering this. Thanks for your replies.

Most of the andrio dell tablets have a ARM cpu as compared to your typical ATOM x86 cpu that the dell venue pro has...so unless you can install windows 8 RT on it and have the proper drivers for it...you might be out of luck there

The atom z2560 in the Dell venue7 is x86 soc, I just figured since the Dell venue 8 pro is also atom based it should be possible. They have the venue 7 at microcenter right now for $130. That's fairly cheap and its x86 would be awesome if could get any version of Windows to run on it.

No, the bootloader is special and cannot boot anything else than android.

Big question here. Can you format the windows tablet and install a fresh copy of Windows 8.1 using a flash drive that has windows 8.1 on it?

Yes, as long as you reinstall the right driver after.

You can install windows 8 or 8.1 from usb stick, if you so whishes. I don't see the benefit as there is a recovery partition wich already has windows 8 on it.
