Have you tried taking the mobo out of the case and booting it while its placed on cardboard or something of the like? There is a slim chance it could be grounding out on something. Also, is the PSU on that rig the OCZ 700 watt? Or is it something that came with your case? Or did you case come with the aforementioned power supply? Either way, it does sound like its either a PSU or a Mobo issues. I say do a naked boot with only the necessities before you start saying anything is dead though.

I would recommend doing what nitrousflash stated earlier. Try replacing it with a new power supply first as the power supply could be faulty. Your next step would be to check the motherboard.

I would recommend replacing both the motherboard and PSU through RMA mainly because the power supply could have fried your motherboard. If you do however notice problems with the PSU make sure you check your other components for electrical damage.

Yes...If the PSU did fry the mobo then you definately dont want to replace the mobo and not the PSU cuz you will find the same problem:another fried POS to send back. You can always order a PSU tester from Newegg and make sure thats the problem. They arent expensive and they come in handy,at least for me since Im a PC Tech.Good Luck,if you were in my neighborhood i would swing by and help you but I cant afford to fly to Philly right now.

Has the computer ran before? Or has it never booted up properly?

Take everything out, as Tubnotub1 suggested, and put the motherboard on a components (CPU, motherboard, 1 stick of memory, videocard, PSU, HDD). Start it up. Do the fans spin? Does the light on the motherboard come on? Does the motherboard beep? Take careful note of this.

Report back after you have done that.
