windows is configuring your updates....

Thread Starter
My windows recently downloaded and installed some new updates and required a restart, upon doing so it loads up and says "windows is configuring your updates" and says 32% done.. It stays like this for a while and then says "shutting down" which it never does. I left it for 2 hours and it still didn't "shut down" so I hit the restart button. Same thing happens 32% for a while and then stuck on "shutting down"..

I ended up having to go into safe mode and then restarting it as its loading so it initiates startup repair tool where I can choose to turn my pc back to a later date. Once I have done that it starts up windows again and this time works.. The first time I did this it said new updates have been installed and i need to restart, so I did and guess what? same thing happened so I had to do what I did last time. This time it put my pc back to an earlier date before these 4 "important" updates have been installed..

What should I do?

EDIT: forgot to specify which OS.. It's windows 7, 64 bit..

Run this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

After that has completed, restart the computer and then install the updates again.

If it still errors out, go to the folder: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\ and then open the file named CheckSUR.log

Post the contents of that file here. Especially the last part.

Thanks for the reply! I ran that fix and it didn't seem to help, this is what is in the CheckSUR.log file.

Also when I open the updates window I notice that a LOT of my previous updates have failed, could this be the reason somethings not working in the new updates?

here's a screenshot of my updates screen..

I tried running my pc in Safe mode with networking and it still doesn't start up. It says it's removing failed updates but never leaves that screen.
