E6400 Temps

Thread Starter
So i just put together my comp and my E6400 is sitting at 54C! thats too high, so i ordered a Scythe Infinity for it. My question is, do you people think its safe to start downloading Windows with those temps? or should i just wait till my hsf gets here?

At stock speeds and stock cooling, you should be a little lower than that. However, BIOS temperatures are higher than idle (it's about 80% load).

You're on the edge though... I'd be careful.

You should be fine to run wondows at 51c, your proc isnt gonna catch fire or anything like that. As long as youre not running any torture tests for extended periods of time or other activities whcih need alot of cpu activity, it'll be fine. Don't overclock anything until you get that scythe however. Download speedfan and see what your temps are in windows as well.

But 51c is really high what are your ambient temps like?

If you really want to load the OS now, then keep the side cover open and perhaps a fan blowing on it. The system is a little on the warm side, but nothing to be alarmed about just yet.

If you can wait, then maybe do just that.

Yay I'm not the only one with horriable temps!

I can't get a new cooler for a good two weeks though, I'm totaly broke. >_<'

Idleing at 44° Hitting 60° under full load.

Any one know rougthly how much more heat a 6400 puts out compared to a Sempron 3100?

speedfan will report almost the same temp that shows in the bios. you need to download Intel TAT. its in the downloads section of teh forum, it gives the temp from the core of teh cpu.

installing windows will be fine, they can run hotter just not for extended periods of times. and prepare to have a pain with the infinity, i hate those damn clips!!!!!

its a good cooler, just the clips are a pain in the ass.

Ambient temp = the temperature of the room/environment.
