Well I just recently bought pretty much the same system as below as soon as quad sli became available. Nearly all the components are exactly the same as my first build except the motherboard, at the time the only conroe mobo available was the Asus P5N32 SLI SE - which turned out to be rat crap, needed tonnes of bios updates and generally ****ty performance was found all over but it kinda worked with no serious errors bar the poor performance.Which meant i did no ocing whatsoever.

So around came the Evga 680i which PCFormat screamed from the roof tops was the best thing since sliced bread so i bought mine pretty much as soon as i could, took it home replaced my old mobo and ran it only to find a constant BSOD when trying to load windows, after tedius safemode tweaking and driver reisntalling along with a bois upgrade to P23 i managed to get it running fine.

So fine in fact that i thought it being perhaps one of the best Ocing motherboards around that i might try my hand. What i did to start off with was set the SLI Enabled ram to Auto settings on OC 0% then upped the FSB from 1066 to 1080 to give 2.7 instead of 2.6 just to see how it ran. All other voltage settings were set to "Auto"(i thought this was safe being the ocing motherboard the 680i is) and ran the settings.

----- windows booted up fine, seemed to be no probs then after say maybe 25mins of oblivion my pc restarted itself and after a reboot gave an error message about files found in my temporary folder in the docs nd settings of my user. i then thought oh crap so went straight back into bios and put it back, yet when i ran it normally the problem kept happening, my mate says that i couldnt have damaged the ram (speed was shown at 405mhz in cpuz @ overclock) and that maybe because it wasnt running in 1:1 with my cpu that i should change the settings a bit and get the ratio where it should be.---
-- i then looked at the temp and saw that i was idling around 38-42 not awesome but not too bad either so i thought id give the memory thing a try and squeeze a wee bit more performance out at the same time so i went into BIOS again and Changed the Memory mode to "linked" changed the ratio to "synced" and put my FSB to 370 with a x8 Multi (giving 2960Mhz nd 740mhz ram at 1:1 ratio) saved it and booted her up, all seemed very well, temps were just less than the 50s and there seemed to be no problems , i booted up oblivion and played at some awesome fps'es quite a good improvement--- then after 4 hours (or more) play time my pc restarted again, this time stopping at post or bois telling me that it had started up in Safemode and that i was to put my clock speeds back to default, which i did then i started it back up again with the original settings and its still restarting itself especially in oblivion and rainbow six---- with the same message about files in my temp folder

can anyone maybe tell me if iv bust my ram? or is it just something trivial? and maybe some tips on overclocking with 680i and conroe would be a little usefull, thanks!, chris

Ps All my drivers and bios are up to date
