R9 270 or 7950 for Litecoin mining? And what are your hash rates?

Hi there all fellow miners,
I just wanna start mining litecoins and get some profit out of it. I've first targetted 7950 but it's hard to find and I found one for 300$ in my country (link to that 7950) . But checked forums here a bit and found out R9 270s aren't bad also. Found one for 220$ (link to that R9 270). They are both unused. I expect 450 KH/s from R9 270, anyone using that card?? especially Powercolor one, it's with 2 fans but I hesitate about Powercolor's quality (it will work 7/24)? Need your opinions... Thanks in advance.

Thats pretty cheap since in my country its all up 400$++ 7950 - 280X. I think the card will do well, but imo I don't think reference can cool itself properly. Maybe its just me because of I had so many bearing issues with reference design. But it should do well mining just be sure to watch the temps. Try to get keep them at 75C and try not to overuse them too much so you can still sell it or use it for gaming in the future.

For the 270 I think you better stay with the 7950. You can get 650 - 700Hash ea card and its only 100$ higher than the 270 that gives you 400-450 hash rate. x3 270 = 660$ 1.2Mh assuming its 400Kh ea and 7950 x2 = 600$ ea less power comsumption and gives you around 1.3Khs -> 1.4Khs.

As for the coins, Litecoins wont give you any profit as of now due to the rise of difficulty mining them. If I were you go for alt coins better profit.

Thanks for the replies Allen. When I check the table on "[Official][Tutorial] How to Start Mining Litecoins" for 7950 I see 400-700 KH/s interval, I think upper edge of that is for some heavily overclocked cards. I don't plan to use an overclocked card and I wanna use it 7/24. Is the figure you gave for 7950 (650-700) for an overclocked card? If some people who use 7950s for mining reading this thread can share their hash rate figures I will be very happy.

A hd7950 should do 640/650. And overclocked? Well the correct settings yes. My club 3D royal queen does 645 24/7 on 1075/1250 with a temp of 79 celcius.

With BAMT, I am currently highly unimpressed with my Sapphire 7950's, and think my 270 setup was much better in efficiency and performance. In fact, the ONLY reason the 270 setup would have a disadvantage would be if you wanted to for the max hash PER mobo, then obviously anything higher will give u more PER mobo. Keep in mind my goal here was to put in 3x270+3x7950 and then then two other 270's in my work rig, replacing my GTX560Ti.

($200/card PLUS a free game, worth about $20, so $180 net)
My two 270's was giving me 960 hash... for a week straight, didnt move at all, at 69C in about 20C ambient, fans running 50%. Those Windforce fans really kick some major a$$.

(~$320 per card, one new, got 2 used
My two Sapphire 7950 I just installed in the same system, having a hard time getting them over 1270 no matter what settings I put in, including some I read online and some tweaking, adjusting all 3-4 major settings even like 5% at a time up and down, nothing... it either crashes or gives me worse rates. Curious tho, the new card came at default 1.169V, and the used was at 1.25, wth??? The new runs at 650 at 63C, and the 1.25V at 620 at 71C. I'll have to go to another thread for this dilemma.

So right now, putting in six 270's in my Gig mobo seems like the most tempting option, which would theoretically give me 2.88 MH. Since they use less power I can get a cheaper PSU also and with that just build another cloned rigged like that if I wanted more.

However, before my final decision, I will do a few more different settings and check out more tweaks for the 7950, since its supposed to be "the best," I MUST be doing something wrong...... hmmmm.....

You have to run your HD7950s with a forced 1.1V. Runs cooler, uses less power. Runs stable.

The HD7950 is still THE mining card in performance vs buying price. The 290 series seems to be better in performance vs power use. But their initial investment price is much higher.

Can I take it out, flash bios in Win7, adjust voltage and then put back into BAMT?

And 1.1? Whats the max hash u can get from that? I understand that would be a lot more electric friendly, but if 50/50, I prefer to lean towards a larger hash at the expense of a few more cents a day.

I don't know about flashing the BIOS.

My Club 3D runs 645 @ Intensity of 18 clocks 1075/1250 TC 24000 and a voltage of 1.1V
