QX6700 or E6600? - Page 2

The real blessing with the Q6600 is that it future proofs you way more than any other processor on the market. Plus it's native quad core, unlike the QX6700's "Dual" Dual Core on one die solution.

I'd say get the E6600, in games that will have a higher performance than the quad core as you can overclock it to a higher speed, games only use one core and so if you go quad you'll have 3 cores idling and one slower core doing all the work. Games won't be multi-threaded for many years so 2 cores will be fine.
Also you should only be paying about £200 for that e6600!
thanks for that well put reply, yeah sorry i misread, it is only £200 for the e6600 in fact

Im going for the e6600 and gonna buy creative gigaworks as well for watching movies and when friends come round, and ill have my siberias for gaming
+reps all round, ty

Don't get a thermaltake power supply, they aren't good (i already made that mistake).
With the money you saved from getting the e6600 get something like:

I'd highly reccomend the corsair one, that extremely good.

ok, the Q6600 is gonna OC like the 6700. ok so it will get like 3.4 MAX....um LAWL not 3.6 EASILY...

the E6600 can get 3.6 on a TT or BT or SI.

games dont even fully take advantage of DUAL core yet, much less QUAD core

Yeah, totally amd_hardsoftware. Quad Core < Dual Core.

If I were you, I'd go with an E6600 now. As you mention, the quad cores are not really fully utilised in games now and only a handful of games make use of dual core, so, considering the price difference involved, I think the E6600 is probably the better option for now. January Sales 2008 will be a good time to pick up a quad core core2 CPU imo .

Highly-Annoyed

edit

didnt see the above post, but 3.0 ghz versus 3.6 ghz, are u sure quad core is really faster?
3Ghz on the Core architecture is plenty fast. Plus, once multithreaded programming becomes more mainstream, it'll be a ton faster.
another vote for E6600 , in 2 years (the time needed for quadcores to be used in games in my opinion ) you will be able to get a much faster quad core cpu for a lot less money , and the E6600 will still be fast at that time .

thanks for all the posts guys, lol bob, u read my mind, i was just starting to doubt the thermaltake because alot of people have been knocking it as ive looked around this forum, im gonna have a quick look now and see what psu i should buy.
Also ive just read the VF 900 doesnt fit the 8800 gtx? is that true? lol it would've been embarrassing to buy a cooler that didnt fit

ok which of these two psus would u recommend? theyre both OCZ but ive not really looked into them yet, which is better?

edit: After searching for a review i couldnt find anything on that first one, and to be honest ive never heard of it, but the gamexstream sounds like a good psu, and it looks awesome!!
I think im gonna for that, do u guys approve?

thanks again guys, +repping the users who just posted

2nd edit lol:
just found this: http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Product...65&GroupID=359
ocz memory cooler o_O, will this fit on my g skill ram? and will it bring any benefits? if so how many degrees are we talking? and is loud? has anyone got one of these? lol thanks

3rd edit:
if i were to buy a 120 mm case fan... where would i put it? would i sit it under the GPU or what?
i see alot of people buying these case fans but where do people put them? lol thanks

Both those PSUs you have linked to are the same one! On one it says GXS and the other it says the full name GameXStream. The OCZ is a fantastic PSU (i have the 600w version). OCZ also give you a 36 month warranty where if it breaks they just swap you for a new one!

That memory cooler will fit your RAM, it will clip onto the memory slots. It is worth getting if you are raising your memory voltages and it will mean you don't really have to worry about toasty memory! As for actual temp difference i don't think many people will know the answer to that one as not many have temp probes on their memory. It appears it's noisy at full speed but if you turn it down a bit it isn't too bad http://www.driverheaven.net/showthread.php?t=125166

From reading a review of the armour it seems that all fan slots come filled except the 80mm slot on the top. http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-280-6.htm so i don't think there would be anywhere good to put another 120mm fan, unless you could fit it to the front to create a second front intake, but i don't know if thats possible. I'd say just get the case, have a play and see where you could fit extra fans, then buy the extra fans.

I'm pretty sure the Q6600 is a twin dualcore chip just like the QX6700. The intel native quad, Yorkfield, isn't until late 2007.
