i hear alot of good things comming up in Q2 of this year... as in price drops for the core 2 duo pricessors and release of the e6x50 cpus's, can anyone give me an idea of when this should be around, and will the prices of mobos be likely to go down or up? my plan is to buy all the hardware xcept the cpu this month, and since a celerond is lga775 like the e6600 i can just stick it in the mobo and have it running better than my current p3 at only 933mhz...nasty eh.. considereing the celyD at 3 ghz is only 45$ bucks! is q2 soon cus i REALLY cant wait to get rid of this crapy computer!

well i would have thought after march - divide 12 by 4 and you get 3... each quarter is 3 months... so Q1 is January-end of march, Q2 is April-end of June Q3 is July-end of September and Q4 is October-end of December

the logical conclusion to when a Q2 2007 price drop will happen will be....

I would say the drop will be sometime in Q2 2007

thats what i thought, but apparently it starts april.. some people even say june... when logically doing the math q2 should start march... there is a 3 month difference here.. i dont mind waiting 3 months.. NOT 6 months..

damn... i really dont know if its worth waiting for.. cus i know i WILL be more happier with the CellyD at 3.0ghz till then instead of this..p3.. *ick* im also really just waitign for the e6x50's an e6300 with 4m L2 sounds nice for the price..

As Fusion explained it DOES Start at April.

1st Q: Jan, Feb, Mar

2nd Q: Apr, May, Jun

3rd Q: Jul, Aug , Sep

4th Q: Oct, Nov, Dec

Hence 2nd Quarter Price drop CAN be as late as June, like you feared (thats 6 months)

How can you have the patience? I have to stop myself everyday from jumping onto the 8800 GTX wave, lol.

I'd say you should just jump onto the bang for buck, overclockable section right now. Which would mean a Asus P5 motherboard and a C2D 6400 or 6600 and overclock like mad.

I just finished assembling my C2D system, and though my old AMD 939 3800+ was no P3... it was tortoise like compared to the new monster, woot! If gaming is your thing, a decent C2D with some overclocking should be considered "top of the line" for at least a year, maybe more. Jump on the bandwagon man!

Computer technology grows at an exponential rate dood. Being just a few years/generations behind leaves you in the dust.

It's no problem if you are a general user (like a Mac weenie) and use your computer for mostly teh internets and microsoft office or something, but man, the price you pay for the sweet sweet fruit of high tech games is big money to stay at the bleeding edge of performance.

I played Rainbow Six Vegas today and I was really, really itching to get the 8800, gah, holding out for the 8900/R600 is getting really difficult!

Anyway: why not just get a future proof motherboard and start off with the budget C2D CPUs? Think of it as preparing yourself for the new wave, and for the enjoyment of a sweet new computer right NOW.
