8800 GTS OC Temps

Thread Starter
I'm thinkin about oc'in my gts and I was wondering; what is the highest temp I should go to before I stop? In other words what is a safe temp for stock cooling?

Absolutely SAFE temps I would say under 75C but you can "safely" get it up to 85C but I would not recommend it for 24/7. Also the GTS's have some problems with the memory burning out and causing artifacts when it is OC'ed to high. This damage could be permanent and cost you to RMA your card. Look under the 8800 owner and OC'ing threads. The problem is posted there. I would NOT recommend OC'ing it to high until the problem is solved or w/e.

Below 80c is ok, also if your going to leave it overclocked all the time I wouldn't go higher than 575-600 core and 1800 memory a few people have burned there 8800GTS cards up.
And there temps never got over 70c the GTS memory can't handle really high overclocks I guess.

Please bear with me as this is my first post on OC.net. I have the XFX8800GTS and it runs @ 49c Idle and 59c-61c load and overclocked @ 620/1000 51c Idle and 62c-64c Load. I am using a Antec VCool Expansion Slot VGA Cooler which blows cool air in on the card and the cool thing is it has an extension that moves the fan back to the stock 8800 fan. I only saw a 2c drop but then I used Arctic Silver 5 and it dropped another 2c or 3c (I DID NOT put it on the small chips on the card!!!). I am using RivaTuner to run the fan @ 100% it seems to make the biggest difference. it drops another 3c or 4c when I do that.

Do you mean the memory chips? Was there any Goo on them?
You should probably put at least some thermal tape on them.

EDIT-> Those temps you have are well within safe specs.
Are you sure the slot blower is intaking air? I ask cos they make both.
