e6400 stock cooler

Thread Starter
buying a e6400 cpu and im planning on using the stock hs that comes with it. I have a full tower with 7 case fans and my ambient temp is 22c-24c so it stays pretty cool in here and i always leave my case side panel off from habit...

ive read a ton of reviews and talk about how the stock hs sucks and its not a good idea to use it. and i primarily play games ... alot lol 6+ hrs a day on some days etc. I dont plan on overlocking the cpu so all i really wanna know is.. realisticly will this hs do the job or not ?

If you're not planning on overclocking there is nothing to worry about with the stock HSF. Intel would not give you these HSFs if they thought it was bad for their product at the suggested CPU speeds.

I've got a stock hsf at the moment, upgrading to the tower 120 though, but I've got my system running at 2.6ghz, 1.275 vcore, haven't verified stability in orthos yet. It runs at 43c idle and 56C in TAT at full load in Orthos after 10min. So if your not going to overclock at all the stock HSF is quite adequate (adequate, not good) I've found. Though I seem to have gotten lucky with these temps on the stock HSF from reading what other people post, but you'll be ok using stock.

Yes, the stock heatsink/fan combo is fine. As a matter of fact, Overdrive PC routinely overclocks E6600's 1GHz and past stock ratings using that cooler.

The link is to the same system that Maximum PC magazine tested in their November 2006 Gaming PC shootout. As stated in the article, the system was completely stable and trouble free at delivered settings (about 3500MHz, if memory serves me).

Running TAT and Orthos pushes my temps up like 4° more than just one or the other. >_<

that doesnt sound too unreasonable to me. keeping in mind it is doing a crap load of work in there, and running on air. u might could get it down a little but u would have to work on airflow. or that might just be the norm.
