[Build Log] Godzilla Deluxe (Corsair Obsidian 250D) [Update: 5/10/2014]

Thread Starter
Welcome to my build log of the new Obsidian 250D (ITX with no compromises) This is my first build log so don't blame me if its ~Cheesy~

Reason for the name is: I always name my Rigs Godzilla with some word play but why Deluxe here is why:
Quote:
We're a week away from Godzilla's theatrical release. As the days approach, fan anticipation grows more and more fevered. As we reported earlier this week, however, some Japanese fans of the original film series have said they are "annoyed with how fat the monster appears in the American trailer" - claiming online that America had "done a ‘super-size me." Other names reportedly posted were "calorie monster” and “Godzilla Deluxe.” One comment, claimed “He’s so fat, I laughed.”

Plans:
1-Spray Dota 2 sign (red) on the front door of the case
2-Change the front stock 140mm fan with a 200mm fan
3-Add 2x80mm fans in the back for exhaust
4-Water cool the CPU (H100i,nothing fancy)
5-Remove the ODD cage

Parts:
CPU: Intel Core i7 4770k (4.5Ghz-4.8Ghz)
Mobo: Asus Maximus VI Impact
RAM: 2x4GB 1600Mhz Blu ram (Overclocked to 1866Mhz)
GPU:Still haven't decided yet but looks like either an R9 290 or a used 780 (Lighting/Classy) [r9 295x2 might be an option but considering a lot of problems first]
Cooler: Corsair H100i
Case: Corsair Obsidian 250D
PSU: Corsair AX860 860WATT
Fans: 1x200mm Cooler master Mega Flow(For front intake) 2x120mm Corsair SP120 High Performance fans (For H100i) 2x80mm Noctua NF-R8 (For back exhaust)
HDD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 for DATA
SSD: 250GB Samsung EVO for OS,Games and important Programs
ADDON: 2xSilverstone Tek Sleeved PWM Fan Splitter Cable for exhaust fans

I already have the RAM and the HDD, Getting all the parts (Excluding the GPU) in two weeks and will start building it as soon as possible!
I will take my time building it as i want to get the cable management right this time and i am thinking of adding some LEDs under the windows to make a cool effect to the case.

If you have any ideas or concerns please do share.

*UPDATE* 5/7/2014 [3:15 am]

After Approx. 4 months of waiting for FedEx to start shipping to Yemen again [The country is not in stable condition] finally i received some of the parts and the rest is will arrive in approx. 2-3 weeks.

Received:

Case: Obsidian 250D
Cooler: H100i
Power Supply: AX860 [Not the i version as after some research i discovered that the non-i AX860 had a better Fan+Better PSU in general ]
Fans: 1xMega Flow 200mm[For the front of the case], 2xSP120 High performance 120mm [Replacement for the H100i stock fans]

Forgive me for the lack of the photos as my phone and camera are not available today [Give me around two days]

Going to waste the next couple of weeks fiddling around the case and building some ideas on how to paint it and if everything goes as planned i might even mode the top windows so i can pass through it the two tubes of a 120mm radiator that will be mounted on top! what is that 120mm radiator for you say? its for the mighty R9 295x2 biggrin.gif. This part of the plan is still in my imagination as i dont know if the mounting mechanism will work or even that i will get that r9 295x2 any time soon!

Will write my first impression about the Build quality of the Corsair line up when i upload the photos as its already 3:15 am

Thank you for subbing and forgive me for any grammatical/spelling mistakes as English is not my first language.

Something i was listening to when i posted this. Enjoy! biggrin.gif

*UPDATE* 5/10/2014 [4:15 am] GMT+3

So today i will post some of my initial impression with the components i received

Case:

Packaging:

The Corsair 250D has been that case i fell in love with the second it was announced and i knew i had to get one as soon as possible and that day has finally arrived! Initially i saw the box/packaging which was nice, it had two hard foam around the front and the back of the case which protected all the sides of the case perfectly from any damage (Which was a bonus as i shipped it internationally) the whole thing was inside a thick plastic cover and kudos to Corsair for getting rid of that adhesive plastic cover that protected the front panel from scratches as reviews showed it was a pain in the back to remove as it left a lot of adhesive residue on the brushed aluminum panel which was hard to clean up.

Size and TechSpecs:

The case it self was exactly the size i imagined it to be specially as it wasn't the smallest ITX case neither the largest one(Calling the prodigy a fatazz) although its a cube its still a pretty compact cube in point of view.

Official TechSpecs
Quote:
Weight:11.7000

Color:Black

Case Form Factor:Mini-ITX

Dimensions:351mm x 277mm x 290mm

Case Motherboard Support:Mini ITX

Maximum GPU Length:290mm

Maximum CPU Cooler Height:95mm

Maximum PSU Length:180mm

Case Expansion Slots:2

Case Drive Bays:
(x1) 5.25in
(x2) 2.5in
(x2) Combo 3.5in/ 2.5in

Case Material:Brushed Aluminum and Steel

Case Power Supply:ATX

External Connections:
(x2) USB 3.0
(x1) Headphone Port
(x1) Microphone Port

Fan Mount Locations Front:
(x1) 120/140/200mm
Rear: (x2) 80mm
Side: (x2) 120mm

Fans Included Front:
(x1) 140mm
Side: (x1) 120mm

Radiator Mount Locations Front:
120/140mm
Side: 240mm

Build Quality:

I know that Corsair is known for their build quality but boy oh boy as my first Corsair case the 250D sure proved its grounds as an Obsidian, Yes its not a 900D in build quality but still for $79.99 its still worth every penny (The price i got it for although its MSRP is $89.99)

The whole case is made of steel which will make it feel as sturdy as possible the front panel is made of plastic that is covered with a thin layer of brushed aluminum which is a touch i like.

A lot of thumb screws around the case which makes it easier to access and semi-tool less but still i would've loved if the thumb screws where irremovable from the panel to prevent misplacing them

Interior layout:

Inside of the 250D is spacious and well organized but i still haven't figure out how am i going to lay out the cabling after i receive the mobo and the cpu and i noticed after removing the front ODD cage the case was a little wobbly but after closing the panels it felt as sturdy as before so its not a real problem.

The case has five fan mounting points 2x80mm ,2x120mm and 1x140mm/200mm, you can install an H100i easily with the 200m fan installed infront and all the fans intake are covered with magnetic dust filters.

There are four HDD/SSD cages in the back that can hold two 3.5 inch drives and two 2.5 inch drives.

This sums my first impression about the case, i know its short and simple but i am welling to write more info when i start using the case but here is a nice video that will tell you most of the info you need to know abou the case

H100i:

The Corsair H100i is my first AIO water cooler and it really looks nice it came in a really good quality packaging which screamed quality the second i saw it, The tubes are thick and nice but are a hard to twist which will make installing the block a little hard if you already mounted it into the case, the fans that came with the H100i look a little flimsy which is not a problem as 90% of the users will change the fans.

AX860:

This is by far the best build quality i have ever seen in a product in my life its truly amazing how the second i opened the packaging i started ~Heavy breathing~ it was protected in two boxes plus hard foam plus a fabric bag to protect it from scratches!!! it came with a small bag that had all the cables and the screws you need and i cant wait to fire this baby up

SP120:

This two fans sure do look nice with the colored rings and it came in a nice packaging but its looked as flimsy as the stock H100i fans and i hope at least they perform a little better than those

MegaFlow 200:

This is one of the best 200mm fans i have ever owned had one in my old HAF912 and it performed very well so it will do the job perfectly

This is just a fast write up about what was in my mind about these products , Please ask any questions you need about these products and i will answer them

Cheers

Thank you for subbing and forgive me for any grammatical/spelling mistakes as English is not my first language.

Subbed thumb.gif Im also looking to be building with the 250D (upon UK release) in the next couple of weeks, will be moving from my 600t to the 250D. Im using the parts in my sig, the only extras ive bought are the maximus vi impact, the 4670k and of course the 250 on release.

Cant wait to get started with it! Look forward to seeing how you go about your build! biggrin.gif My only concern is going to be space with the sleeved corsair modular cables for my psu. They are full length cables and think space will be tight, if only corsair did a short cable kit...rolleyes.gif

Nice!

I love the 250D but i HATE the window!

I wish corsair would have a solid top panel

Can you fit 200mm front fan with 100i in the side?

I was watching overclock3d review of the case and it looked so tight with h100i and he left the stock 140 in the front

Wouldn't it be a better idea to get the AX760i instead of the 860W? The recommended power supply trough the psu caculator is 620W and thats with everything on 100% load and the cpu at 4.6ghz. so an 860W psu seems like overkill to me.
