PowerColor PCS+ R9 290? - Page 25

well i bought the card for cooling performance, she plays dayz and bf4 really well
i can run bf4 on ultra and even supersample 200%, i dont notice alot of eyecandy from it, i stick to aa and supersample at 130% which is equivalent to 1920 res

anyway for the performance, the cooling is superb, vrm stays mid 40s to 50s for 1 and 2
it depends, if i supersample at max, i can reach past 60-65 degrees
not sure if thats core or vrm, cant remember redface.gif

im dissappointed in arma 3 performance though, but i know the game isnt optimized properly, i average 30 fps in that damn game with high settings at 1440 res,

the weird part is on low settings, my fps is the same, this is ingame multiplayer,
but when i stare at the main menu and the camera overlooks the map, i can max out the game and average well over 50 fps

The gpu fan doesnt crank on that game but when i play bf4 i can hear the fans spin up, i wonder what kind of lousy programming went into that game anyway headscratch.gif

Good to hear you're getting good temps. What case and fan setup do you have? Can't see your rig builder on my mobile and the desktop version is glitchy on my phone. I'm trying an experiment right now where I took out the side fan and put a noise dampener on the fan mount which allows me to crank the other fans higher. So far temps have worsened by 5-7c, but it is warm today, so maybe 3-5c worse.

i have the switch 810 with 7 fans, one exhaust, two on top including the kraken x40 cooler pulling air into the case

2 fans in front pulling air into the hdd case

2 fans on the other side where one is shooting air at the gpu and the bottom one is keeping the psu in company.

i could put a third fan on the top but my cd drive is never active and it might get a little too cool.

The Power Color PCS+ and the BenQ XL2420TE is up and running, I am very happy with this combo. The colours could be better on the BenQ but I knew that, in any case, my eyes love the high refresh rate, no eyestrain anymore. That's really sweet.

I am planning to get me one of those 290 PCS+, so I'm curious how much khash/s I can expect from it?

Also in games what core temps could I expect from it, what power usage?

CHEERS..

i might do some mining tomorrow so ill let post back on here, i havent had whole lot of time and i been patient with it, i bought extended warranty on newegg, i dont plan to change out my card for a long time
i kept my old 8800 gt for almost 7 years so cool.gif

also just make sure if you mine, the card is very big, thats why it runs cooler than sapphire tri-x
if you plan to build a mining rig with 6 cards, im guessing only 4 of these would fit on the rig lol
well maybe i dont know for sure.

A little OT, but where did the oc on your tri-x top out? I've found one locally for ~$540 US + tax, and also a reference Asus 290X with Hynix ram for ~$595 US + tax. Trying to decide between the two for use with my waterblock because I didn't have the heart to scrap the cooler from my pcs+, and as you know I wanted to try Hynix.

Which do you think is better binned? I'd like to have the 290X, but it's a small increase and if I ever had to revert it to stock....

I never maxed out the Tri-X because my psu couldn't handle overclocking a pair of 290s on top of my 4670k. But it hit 1140 core 1500 mem with a +31 vddc adjust without a murmur, and I didn't even try to go lower on vddc bbecause the pcs+ needed that vddc. +140 on the core with a +31 vddc is pretty good IMHO. It definitely oc's better than the pcs+ but it also has a higher ASIC.

For water cooling Asus has better power delivery, the Tri-X just has the reference 5+1+1. The recent quad 290x that shattered the record used a pair of asus and a pair of msi. Asus almost always has great chokes also. Their problem is cooler design. Personally I would go with asus for water cooling, I think there's a reason that was the first custom block EK announced. But you should ask in the 290/x thread.

I already posted (but not in that thread), only 1 reply. I'll give it a whirl.

Better power delivery? AFAIK it is a reference 290X:

Thanks for the prompt feedback.

Oh I thought you meant the dcu2. And I totally missed on the fact that it's a 290X.

Edit are you in Europe? Or us? Someone in 290 thread linked this, $599 for asus 290x dcu2. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8883738&CatId=7387
