PowerColor PCS+ R9 290? - Page 31

post #301 of 1176
@ daymond,
request rma and let them know whats up with your card
heres a number i found on newegg
1-855-885-4625

if you really think something is wrong with your card, give em a ring
i decided to email them in the meantime

i might have to rma mine cuz im getting some nasty rattling with it at high fan speeds, the cooler works so well when im gaming that the fan never goes high enough to cause the rattling
its a bit low though

only when using something like unigine, anything to cause high gpu load to near max makes the fans spin up to the 70's and 80s
it might be the chokes aint glued down right who knows

I got lazy and just did 1040/1350 and 1040/1550, but I did do 3 runs of each, if you really would like to see the 1450 I could do that, but here is what I have

@1040/1350
11255, 11237, 11232 -- average 11241

@1040/1550
11327, 11332, 11344 -- average 11334

Difference of 93, same as what you are seeing. I'm pretty sure if I ran the 1450 mem benches it would be right in the middle between these two sets.

Imho a score gain of +200 from +100 memory clock seems really high. +50 points per +100 on mem, what we're getting basically, seems more reasonable. Were you seeing those memory clock gains at the default reference clock of 947? Maybe mem clock has a greater effect at lower core clocks.

Fan profile on the Tri-X is too mild, the PCS+ profile is better imho. Tri-X stays at 20% for too long and lets heat build up and then ramps up too fast later on. I prefer the PCS+ minimum of 30% and hitting 50% fan fairly quickly. In my heat torture test the Tri-X hit 71% fan (loud as heck at that speed), Powercolor maxed at 59%.

I just remember seeing a larger increase with my ref 290 *shrugs*.

I'm noticing a weird noise coming through my speakers during 3d loads, this wasn't present with my 780 lightning or my ref 290. Interesting, maybe electrical interference, I do currently have my SB card in my 2nd pci-e 16x slot, I may remove it later and see if it changes anything.

** and que the black screen of doom. Just having no luck with this card right now, a bit frustrating.

I just took a peep at the original 290/X owners thread and my numbers for valley are within spec. Taem, do you use windows 8 or 7?

P.S. nvm, I checked your setup. Seems you might be getting some extra fps from windows 8.1. i'll give it a shot.

Black screens, 5-7% slower, and now weird electrical interference on speakers, shame shame. I wanted to like this card but seems I drew the short end of the stick. Newegg has a great deal on the tri-x now so I picked one up. Will RMA this card for a refund or a replacement then sell it D:. I will say this, for all the working PCS+ cards, they cool like monsters!

Tri-X is probably the better all around card. Cools almost as well, seems faster, and at 38mm you can crossfire two of them. The PCS+ is too thick to crossfire, magiccase tried in his ft02 (aka the best air cooling case you can get) and it didn't work out. The only things I dislike about the Tri-X are lack of backplate and a length (305mm) that necessitates removal of hdd cage on a lot of mid tower cases.

What I want though is a Devil edition of the Powercolor.

Yea. Full tower here so no issues aside from lacking a backplate. I may find the sapphire hardware rep and see if they will be offering backplates soon as their 290/290x toxic and vapor-x models show backplates in the product photos, hopefully they'll offer them for other cards soon.

cant refund on newegg, you can rma though, if you buy extended warranty you can sell it and transfer the extended warranty but it only kicks in after manufacturer warranty ends.

i forget how you transfer that warranty though, said something about having to email some company that handles the extended warranty.
i did buy one of those so if i decide to sell the card i can at least give a nice chunk of warranty to someone.

btw off topic, did anyone see the msi 290x lightning? its like 899 on newegg, these prices are disgusting
id crossfire one of those and use the powercolor just to game, have one of those babies mining for me

I didn't purchase on newegg, plus I'd RMA the card (probably directly through powercolor), then test the replacement to see if it's full working then sell it at a loss most likely.

Lightning is $750 on newegg (US), you in Canada?
