PowerColor PCS+ R9 290? - Page 33

My card appears to be an outlier on Valley scores, it's scoring way too high even taking into acct cpu. 3dmark is in line with DA77 and K Man though. Wonder what's going on.

But for sure a reference 290 gets 10000-10040 gpu score in fire strike, that's confirmed in numerous reviews. So this card at 1040 and 1350 should score 11000-11050 on fire strike.

I can confirm that on the valley front. I did a few runs in valley at 1215/1500 win 8.1 and I scored a bit lower than my usual 69.8 on win 7.

hi guys, so this card r9 290 pcs+ is not good for xfire? I want to get 2 windforce 290s and was considering pcs+ but someone here mentioned that both are bad?

so which card is best for xfire without water?

TIA

Yea, I've tried 3 drivers and multiple setups so far, results have been 100% reproducible. And my card seems to be black screening left and right with any game I've tried, so much for spring break rolleyes.gif. Just hoping my Tri-x comes from the newegg nj warehouse, free overnight shipping ftw.

I think what has been concluded in this thread so far is that a mix of 1 PCS+ card and a Tri-x card seem to give the best results temperature wise. All depends on pci-e slot placement (space between) and the size of your case overall. The gigabyte coolers are having a design issue with improper heat dissipation currently, so best cooling options are the PCS+ and Tri-x.

thanks for your reply! but I read that the latest batch of windforce the heat issue is solved (f3 bios). still not the case? hmm

you are saying tri x top card and pcs bottom? I dont mind that but just that tri x is still 2 years warranty... still abit concerned here haha.

casing: air carbide 540.

just buy an extended warranty on newegg 1-4 years, whatever amount you get, the newegg extended warranty kicks in after manufacturer warranty ends thumb.gif

If you can find a supplier that's phased out the older windforce cards you'd probably be good, hopefully there is a review floating around with a newer windforce 290/290x that shows improvement. I haven't seen one yet.

Hey guys been following this thread for a while now and I recently received my powercolor pcs+ r9 290. It has hynix memory and is exhibiting the same issues yours are. http://i.imgur.com/CwH4p3s.gif. Here is my 1040 1350 firestike score http://www.3dmark.com/fs/1859708. Gpu score of 10594. At 1140 1500 I score http://www.3dmark.com/fs/1860142. Gpu score of 11584. Something is definitely up with the hynix cards. Sent an email to powercolor as well. Shame too because at 1140, 1450 I don't break 57° C while gaming.
