R9 290 PCS+ on Valley

This is on stock bios, stock clocks, Using 14.3 drivers

FPS:
57.7
Score:
2414
Min FPS:
30.4
Max FPS:
108.2

On bios from powercolor

FPS:
59.6
Score:
2495
Min FPS:
29.9
Max FPS:
112.5

the difference between the elpida results and the previous are closer. so i guess its acceptable

edit: Hmm, it may still be lower than most i guess?

yes it is slow

was getting 62 fps with reference 290

overlock it @ 1180(99)-1600

we should score 71 72 fps--- instead getting 64,9 fps

gap widens when you overlock the card with the card specific bios....

anyone heard about specific bios where every single card needs a special bios written for serial number to perform=? and it doesnt even work as it should@factory settings plus performs much worse when tuned manually.

i haven't

this is a joke

make sure you try 13.12 drivers, those work good for me, then try the 14 one, thats the beta driver

overclocking doesnt effect performance as it should. Scores same as old bios when oc'ed

i'm bored with these cards, super cooling yet doesnt perform as 290

Lucky you, you could still push it to 1200 1650 tongue.gif mine wont even break 1170 1450. but yeah, i got the same performance increase as you. I guess something is wrong with the hardware on this thing.

So I just bought my PowerColor PCS+ 290 today (499.99 CAN, happy about that), I've been reading this thread and I'm hoping I don't have this performance issue being discussed.

Is this a problem with most PCS+ 290 on here or just a select few?

What seems to be the common problem or difference with those having the issue (ram type?)

What should I expect with benchmarks for this card if it's operating at the level it should be?

I'll test it when I get it on Monday, not expecting to overclock anymore then out of the box.

I5 2500K @ 4.6 ghz
8gb DDR3 Ram @ 1600mhz
850W Power supply
Powercolor PCS+ R9 290

Thanks guys

It started out good but now I'm going for an RMA, have reverted back to my GTX 770.

Definetly hardware, as i said before; same components same gpu, same ram, same pcb yet there are some faulty batches perform %10 worse , need a special bios written for the serial number of the card:) when flashed still runs %50 poor and if you manually overclock it still performs same as old bios.

These cards are faulty call them back powercolor based on SERIAL NUMBER:)

I have a quick question - my gb r9 290 broke(deffected memory). I have a chance to change it with powercoler r9 290 pcs+. Do you think it is worth it, because i must pay around 30$ more?

A review of the R9 290X PCS+, which again shows how far off I am with mine in terms of performances...

Lol thank you for this review. This is what i needed. On auto fan profile this pcs+ performes even worse than my wf3 cooler on auto... I don't know what kind of fan profile are using on most reviews, but in most of them the max temp for pcs+ r9 290s was around 67... That's why i was thinking to change gb with powercolor. But this is the second review with autofan i've seen and i am not so impressed from the cooling department.
