PowerColor PCS+ R9 290? - Page 52

Ncix just dropped the price by $10.00 in the middle of their current sale of $499.99 (now 489.99).

I wonder if they've been told or suggested to get rid of the stock they have left.. everything else is $50 or more for 290's

Came across this post on litecoin forum:
https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=12830.msg121827#msg121827

from this thread: http://www.overclock.net/t/1473172/could-memory-timing-tweaked-bioses-help-game-performance

It could be related to how memory timings are set in the BIOS which explains why users with hynix memory got different performance. Too bad the modified bios are for mining only.

we also have a victim here with "elpida" ram. This card is not amd reference design, doesnt have the amd logo at the pci socket.

I m still waiting for a response from powercolor to get a refund.

Has anybody else noticed that here seems to be a severe lack of powercolor products for sale? I've noticed that not only in the US, but in Australia too, powercolor is no longer available for sale.

What's going on with Powercolor? I have my 280x TurboDuo on its way. I hope all their products aren't faulty by design.

Hmm not the case in Hong Kong, PCS+ started selling not too long ago. I noticed one large shop is selling a bi-fan version of 290.

Does it look like this by any chance? http://www.vtx3d.com/products_features.asp?id=185

Yep, except it's with Powercolor branding

That would probably explain the lack of powercolor products. They must have decided to go with the vtx3d design. Diamond/vtx3d/powercolor/Club3d are all the same, so it's surprising when they have different aftermarket designs

Here's another buggy "Elpida".
I think my card has problems with the voltage controller or something else. Everytime I change the powertarget or voltage the card can't hold the clock. The card has also a voltage drop at the 12v line.(pic3)
I tried different Catalyst and BIOS Versions, including Raymonds Bios. There's no thermal problem or a psu problem (tried 2 different).
That's realy annoying. A good cooler, good ASIC, but no overclocking possibilities -.-

Here some pictures:
