PowerColor PCS+ R9 290? - Page 55

I just saw the discussion in here about a bad batch of cards... what's the easiest way for me to see if I have one? Which benchmark and what do I compare it to?

Also, I like my quiet computing for basic non-gaming tasks. The default minimum fan speed in the auto profile at 30% is a bit loud for my tastes. It keeps it around 38-39 degrees currently, and I would be fine with a couple of degrees higher at idle if I could drop the fan speed down.

I tried 25% and that was significantly better. What speed are these fans rated for, and therefore what is a safe minimum percentage to set in MSI afterburner?

Run 3Dmark Firestrike and Valley benchmark under extreme preset, the acceptable performance level is 11xxx graphics score for firestrike and avg. 60 fps for Valley.

No idea about the minimum percentage, I guess it's acceptable to have a lower rate at idle.

As for the voltage fluctuation, I think we are barking up the wrong tree, we should be looking at VDDC, which is the voltage used by the GPU, not the 12v rail from the PSU. Mine sits at 1.031V at idle, what's yours after the bios update?

I got the bios late last night so I didn't get around to checking any voltage numbers. I did run unigine valley at extemehd once. At 1150, 1350 I scored 64.7 fps. Cpu is 4770k at 4.5ghz.. I'll check out the vddc tonight.

Your PCS+ 290 isn't underperforming. I had an XFX 290 back in November that did around 65fps (Valley EHD) at 1150/1450, so your card is performing as it should. Same goes for rdr09's card.

Yeah it appears the bios did work for me. I got it a lot later than daymond so I wonder if they revised it. In the email from powercolor the instructions have the bios named differently then what they sent me. Either way i'm just happy it worked. Didn't want to give up a card that cools so well.

not so fast. you mind running one more test? one that relies on the cpu as well and compare graphics scores. your ivy is faster than my sb.

Yeah ill download that and run it tonight. I don't know if you saw my earlier post but I ran a couple firestrike tests that you can compare with.
