PowerColor PCS+ R9 290? - Page 58

This is the same BIOS i have in mine, it look like a reference AMD BIOS, is that right? if so would it work to use a reference BIOS from an Asus or something?

i dont know about that, id be careful switching up the bios from a different 290. just make sure you boot your card into the other bios to see if it works
i forget which position is the backup one, theres 1 and 2 although this card has two identical bios

That sounds like a bad idea... I really doubt the issue is a badly written BIOS. More likely they did not properly account for something in the hardware, or we have a bad batch of hardware that they are trying to massage back to appropriate performance levels through some BIOS tricks. Either way I would either wait for more clarity on the matter and a new update from PC or I would return the hardware.

I hope they do respond to me, can't be doing with an under-performing 290.

Everything looks great on Powercolor R9 290 except its performance.

Has anyone with this problem simply returned the card and gotten a new one with the replacement being successful. Some people have problems and some don't but right now I have no idea at what frequency.

Or maybe I will just return the PCS+ and get the Tri-x and just make it fit in my R3 by bending the metal on the upper HDD cage.

EDIT:

Note I also have only a 650 HX cosair power supply, and I had to run the 8-pin external power molex from the second 6-pin on the powersupply.

I really don't know enough about these modern cards... is there any chance that is part of the problem in my case?

(My PC is otherwise unremarkable with an i5 2500k and 8gbs of memory)

You should be able to use a different BIOS with no issues, although you won't get the +50mV by default and would have to add it with Afterburner instead. I've used XFX, Asus, and Sapphire BIOSes on my card, and I'm now using the PCS+ for the extra voltage. So I don't think it's a problem with the BIOS, since my card runs just fine with the Powercolor PCS+ BIOS.

I flashed the new bios and got similar results as daymond's
Very disappointing as this is my first purchase of Powercolor, either they are too incapable to identify the issue or they are trying to cover up.

Less then 2 months and fans are already making weird noises at low speed ( bellow 47%). At first i thought it was the PSU fan, but today i finally figured it was GPU frown.gif
