Thermal Shutdown

Thread Starter
Hello
Does anyone know how well the thermal shutdown function works on Preslers?

I have watercooling that is independent to my computer. The damn thing turned itself on somehow without the watercooling running and it must of shutdown from overheating. I only knew cos I heard the fans spinning as I was walking past my computer room and I raced in and it shutdown by itself. The remote control or somthing must of turned it on. I thought it was a goner but it seems to work still.

Do you think I have damaged my chip?

When your CPU hits around 100C, the system will shutdown. This is to prevent damage to your components. I am sure your CPU is fine.

Rofl yeah, when I first built my PC, it kept shutting down while in BIOS and such..

Then I checked PC Health page and my CPU was running at 75C.. then 2 secs later it was 80C.. another 2 secs and it was at 100C, lol..

Turns out I hadn't engaged the locks on the pins of the stock cooler

I think we have all gone through a similar experience. The first time I installed a processor I loaded that sucker up with thermal grease. The system booted into Windows at 97C! Shut itself down automatically.

My second experience came when I got my Stinger waterblock. I had installed it unbalanced and when I turned on the system it heated up so fast that it shut down before the POST. Took me a while to figure it out!
