I managed to start up the game, then about a minute or so into it, the screen goes black, but I can hear music in the background. When I do a CTRL+ALT+DEL, I see that error message pop up on my screen. From what I have read, people seem to think that it is a Direct X problem.

I've searched high and low all over the internet and on EA's forums, but nobody has a solution. The game makers did recommend a whole bunch of things that people have tried, but nobody has managed to say that any of them work.

Oh well, I only paid $4.99 for it, so no big loss. Maybe I'll be able to play it someday down the road...but looks highly doubtful since apparently Crytek has abandoned the game.
I have searched quite a bit as a matter of fact. There were quite different opinions about it, but the one that were mention the most, was about the PSU not being able to handle it, possible due to overclock.

I have quite a hard time to understand it, because in AnandTech's review of the card, when overclocked, the system didn't use more than 418 Watts:

I don't understand what you mean about this link because it just refers me to the Crysis 3 General Discussion, and no mention of my problem.

I personally find it hard to believe that everybody that has that problem with Crysis 3 has a bad PSU. Why is it that only that game gives people so many problems then?

I play all of my games on my PC, have lately played Far Cry 3, Metro 2033, Metro Last Light, Bioshock Infinite, and not a single one of those games had any problems that I couldn't fix. Crysis 3 is the only game that gives me that error message.

Secondly, I sent you that URL so that you could read through the forum and see the problems that people are having which some are very similar to yours. If you don't read through the discussions, you won't see the different things that people say about that game (especially the negatives concerning the game crashing!)

One of the things that EA moderators told people to try was to UNDERCLOCK their video cards, but that didn't seem to help anybody that tried it. Another way was to put all the settings to LOW. I mean, why bother playing that game with LOW settings?

Yeah you're right. I too have just played Metro 2033 and Far Cry 3 and no crashes whatsoever.

The reason why I'm so hung up on the PSU, is because, if that's the issue, I still have time to return it and get my money back, and buy a 650W. I have around a week left. However, if it's not the PSU, than it's just Crysis 3.

So I just want to make sure it's not the PSU.

well since your cpu and mobo can easily handle another 290 down the road wouldn't it be a good idea to get a psu that can handle crossfire , maybe some 1000w maybe ?!

just a suggestion ...

It's highly unlikely that I would ever add another 290.

However, I bought the V750S, as I got it for a great price. Don't know if it would manage another 290 if that would ever be the case.

Ah I see.

Well that's unfortunate. Guess I'll just stick to one GPU and fry it smile.gif
