ARCTIC Accelero Xtreme IV spotted - Page 5

I have a few questions wonder if anyone could help me find answers,

I have a msi R7970 Lightning BE,
http://www.msi.com/product/vga/R7970_Lightning_BE.html
I have attached a ARCTIC Accelero Xtreme 7970 I left the stock backplate on to help cool the vrms
if I got the Accelero Xtreme IV 280(X) would it fit? and do you think it would lower the temps of the vrms seeing it has that huge backplate?
also how come its cheaper than the other coolers?
thanks in advance for any help

I have a feeling the backplate won't really help all that much.

Try telling that to my R9 290X with the accelero 3 fitted to the card using nothing but the parts that came with the accelero 3 cooler. Im running 1200mhz core with 1.328vc and the hottest set of VRM's being VRM1 maxes out at 79-81C with the core maxing out at 64c.

If I run stock clocks and stock vcore the temps are drastically better but as you can see even with a hefty overvolt/overclock my temps are all in check. As long as everything is properly installed and you have decent case airflow then this cooler is more than sufficient enough to do the job.

So, after installing the accelero on one of my 290s, I encountered two major problems with compatibility on my maximus formula vi and gskill ram with heat shroud.

1. The maximus mobo covering actually gets in the way of the A type clamps for the accelero back heatsink.

2. The heat shroud on my gskill ram gets in the way of the accelero heatsink fins.

Returning to newegg for something more thoughtfully designed.

No, I couldn't get the card to fit in any of the 3. Best of luck.

Got the cooler in and it barely fits haha. Great temps about 55 degrees GPU on Heaven at a 1440p run with everything max and vrm 1 gets to about 73 degrees and the other gets to around 55 must very pleased no more jet blower haha

Congrats and not bad results, thats about what I get with the accelero 3 at stock settings though my VRM1 temps are a little better but then again I have the Roswill Thor Case which has excellent airflow.

Did you mount the cooler flush with the edge of the pciexpress connector side, where the A type mounts belong? I mounted it flush and it will not fit, and if I try moving the cooler more towards the power connector side, the a clamps flex alot.
