The Mighty Turd-Burster - Page 3

For some more clarity on why I decided to go instead for a build that requires all new parts, let me quote a message that I just sent someone over steam.

"New scary incentive for me to replace my old hardware: whenever my GPU is in high-performance mode, every frame drawn causes a single period in a sawtooth wave, over my main audio output. This is, of course, terrifying."

I get the feeling that I'm going to kill this stuff with fire when I get the parts for the Piss Blaster because of all of the scary stuff it's done to me. There's even more than just that, there's also my wifi card deciding that it's not going to function properly at the same time every day for the same amount of time, or my CPU fan occasionally deciding that, this boot, it's going to run at double it's maximum speed, or my HDDs getting unnaturally hot at times with no disk usage, or a little thing a few weeks ago where the motherboard stopped wanting to boot to anything that wasn't the EFI shell, or a certain USB device of mine suddenly only working in Linux (even though it only has windows drivers), or the fact that it sometimes lets out ~2 seconds of extremely loud white noise into my headphones on shutdown, or the fact that the ODD sometimes doesn't work, or the fact that it doesn't like bluetooth devices, or the fact that it sometimes lags the mouse by so much as a second, or the reasons I had to reinstall windows so many times (too scary for thread).

I WOULD sell parts of it to fund the Piss Blaster (get a real build log up sooner, let people who've had to deal with me crying about the terror of using this thing have some rest from such), but I could never put another human being through the horror of this computer for personal profit unless they were my worst enemy.

Along with all of this, I use some applications which require a far more powerful CPU than what I'll ever be able to get from AM3+, and I must switch over to Intel for the extra processing power. While I'd love to stay with AMD and help them afford R&D so that they could actually make a good CPU, I just cannot sacrifice the CPU power to support a company that's stretching itself too thin.

Also, I'm afraid that making the piss blaster blast piss would be too expensive and difficult for my budget and skill. Maybe I'll save that name for a time when I can afford and do it.

I'll try to get this thread locked, but not until some time tomorrow, in case there's someone who actually cares enough to say something on this.

And, the new Intel build I'm planning will not be until at least October, and that's if I can release a year early. At my rate of procrastination, I'd be going fast if I released a year late. (mid-level secret thing, because it's not finished enough to actually say anything about it that isn't commentating on my horrible code)

If I remember by then, once my money-making picks up, I'll make a WC build that uses yellow coolant, and has an open reservoir, with something representing air cooling where in the res it would hit. But that would take a rather fancy res, so I'd also have to make it myself. Pretty interesting-sounding build if you ask me.

You could make the res look like a bladder laughingsmiley.gif
