That is the MINIMUM to have smooth motion - i assure you that i can see the difference between 29.97 FPS and 50 FPS, and my brain can tell the difference way further.
I will agree that although the brain can see the difference between the FPS's, going over 120 is a bit pointless
Did you know that "29.97 FPS" actually is the double, because it is running interlaced.
I don't know how televisions exactly work, but I know that far that they run the double of what's indicated, due to the interlacing.
So 50 FPS, 100% smooth, is what's required.
The human eye sees more than 60 frames a second, and I really do notice when I'm running 60 FPS compared to 100 Hz (that's at 120Hz)
It's obvious that you don't notice a difference between 60FPS and 80FPS when you're running 60 Hz
