7970 GHz not turning off upon shutdown --- other parts turn off instantly?!?!?!

Relevant parts in question:

7970 GHz Vapor-X
P8P67 Pro
Seasonic X650
ASUS Xonar DG
Intel 330 SSD

Whenever I shut down my computer, there are instances where the GPU doesn't turn off quickly while other parts (i.e. peripherals) do.

Basically:

1. Start Menu >> Shutdown
2. See the "Windows is shutting down" screen with the circular icon moving
3. Things like the mouse + keyboard turn off -- LEDs on them turn off.
4. Still looking at the "Windows is shutting down" screen... with the circular icon still moving.
5. Maybe 10+ seconds later, the GPU turns off, and the whole computer shuts down.

As stated before, this only happens sometimes -- in other instances, computer shuts down rather quickly.

Problem seems to have surfaced after switching to this GPU.

Any help's appreciated. Thanks!

It's entirely possible that the computer is just finishing up some processing tasks before shutting down. The GPU stays on in order to drive the monitor, and the monitor is still on because the computer hasn't shut down yet.

Peripherals (KB/M) will be turned off in order to facilitate a quicker shutdown once the machine is done processing, as they definitely won't be needed before the machine boots again.

Is there any sort of commonality in when this occurs, i.e. shutting down directly after gaming, directly after boot, etc.
