Which chipset fan for SLI-DR Expert? - Page 2

it doesnt touch... just be careful to install the cooler evenly...it is easy to put on...

It's a good cooling solution and some of the new DFI boards come with that cooler...

The stock one just has a thermal pad. If you are worried, just use arctic silver creamique with the new one

Another option is the HR05 or the HR05-sli from thermalright. You can see pictures of both of them installed on the expert in my P180 build in my sig. Personally i'm probably never going to go SLI so (ironically) I went for the HR05sli which in the orientation I chose (see pic below) blocks the second PCIex slot. If you look in my build log I also have pics of the HR05 installed with a 7900GT and it fits perfectly, but it wouldn't be suitable for longer cards or ones that have the heatsink further down the PCB (which is why I went over to the HR05sli when I got the 7900GTX)

I get idle temps of 29'c when I have my fans on full, and around 45'c when I turn them down low (this is because there is virtually NO air flowing over the HR05sli when the fans are low)

Add it to your option list, as the fans on those small NB coolers can get noisy fast.

As you can see here from my mod

It needs to be slim for it to fit under the video cards, the Thermaltake one needs some modding to fit and that big heatpipe above looks good. You can add a fan to cool the that heatsink and the voltage regulators on that 7900 even a 40mm fan next to the sound card would do.
