G400s has the same wheel, but they have added a spring for some reason. It's not hard to remove the spring after you have opened the mouse. The spring is also the reason why mid-click is so heavy.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I ordered a G400s. I realized that I have a G400 on my Lil Guy PC at GFs place so if I don't like the G400s, I will switch them out.

I'll post back in this thread with when the G400s arrives and tell what I think.

Hi everyone.

I picked up the parcel containing a g400s and have been using it in AutoCAD for about an hour.

I really like it! It seems to be the same as my late g400, from what I can tell after a week off.

There are just 2 things which I would really like to remedy.

- Heavy middle click due to the spring, as noted my MrFerrari above.
- Gawdy top cover.

Can anyone point me toward a video that shows how to safely remove the cover? I would like to switch the cover out with my dead G400 and remove that heavy spring.

Edit: I found one, but I guess it would void the 3-year warranty. I guess I'd better just put up with it.

If you remove the skatez under the mouse you will find 3 screws. Remove them and then you will be able to remove the spring and replace the top.

Whoa! Really? Do I just pry them off? Well they snap back in or will I need to glue them?

I'll try it out on my fried g400 first.

You can always draw holes where the screws are!

It can be hard to reuse skatez. I recommend buying new ones instead. Preferably from Hyperglide, the MX-5 model for mx518v2/g400/g400s. And when you are at it, you can lube the mechanics for bot the wheel and mid-click for a smoother experience.

Thanks a lot. I am going to order those skatez today. I like the mouse and it will be perfect once I get rid of that spring thumb.gif

Let us know how the shell swap/spring removal goes...I definitely agree about the shell, and would have already picked up a G400S if it weren't for the graphics.
