I've done my research mister, even 2gb is enough for a resolution greater than that. rolleyes.gif It's ridiculous that you would say that quadire 3gb 7970's would run out of V-ram on 5400x1920. I can't even deal tongue.gif

http://www.overclock.net/t/1474177/2gb-v-ram/0_100

At 2560x1440, with 4x MSAA and more than 150% resolution scale (1.5x SSAA), BF4 would crash with an "out of memory" error on my system even though I have 3 GB cards and the VRAM usage in Afterburner would be maxed out. AA is a huge VRAM hog.

The thing is that system RAM can be shared with the graphics card so provided you have enough system RAM, you'll rarely run out of VRAM.

What GPU's do you have and do you have a 3dmark11 score? And NO, you cannot do that with current dedicated gaming GPU's (using system RAM as V-ram). Nvidia did say that Maxwell would be able to do that though. But i haven't heard from AMD yet.

Did you really expect x2 7950 x-fire to run BF4 @ 4k resolution with x4MSAA? Even if it had 8GB of V-ram? You do know that 150% of 2560x1440 = 3840x2160 right?

Comparing these two scores together, your 7950's are 21.3% slower than my 770's on the graphics, and my 770's can barely keep up with Bf4 @ 5120x2160 with NO AA at all.

5120x2160 = 11,059,200 pixels + No AA. 21% faster 2gb 770's are struggling to keep up.

3840x2160 = 8,294,400 pixels + x4 MSAA. 21% slower 7950's would definitely not be able to keep up, and you were even trying to go above that tongue.gif

There is a balance betweeen GPU horse-power and V-ram, and Nvidia and AMD know it perfectly. They know why they make GPU's as strong as a GTX 780TI with 3GB of V-ram, and any other addition is just a gimmick, it's not needed because the GPU itself would run out of RAW processing power before it runs out of V-ram.

prolly his is a 7/24 clocks and yours was a suicide run. your 770s are fast.

at high resolution nvidia has lacl of balance for that, then why they would launch a twice amount of vram on their"faster cards",example 780gx 3gb...then their policy of lower vram at higher costs gives they an excuse to create another segment (just for their bank`s accounts)

Nvidia launches a mid range line which has 192 bits bus and amount of vram(768,1,2gb) where some models have a reduction of performance due to the lack of memory controllerd, then they launch cards on this same line with 50% more vram(which clearly cant be fully used without slowing down some bandwidth after a % of vram usage)

Ofcourse it wont run out of vram if the system(windows i.e) shares ram to supply the lacl of vram...

I run at 1400Mhz in SLI while gaming 24/7 now. I didn't water-cool my GPU's, and get a 1050w PSU for no reason tongue.gif. The 3dmark11 run was at 1437Mhz, so just 37Mhz difference from that. A suicide run would be at 1495Mhz+ in SLI, but i can't push my GPU's that far till i'm ready to upgrade, i don't want anything to pop just yet.

Nvidia and AMD are not non-profit companies right? So that means their main aim is to make profit biggrin.gif. They both have competition, that's why they do that. The non-enthusiasts do not know much about computer components, and they mostly go with what they read on the specs when comparing gpu's to buy.

Do you ever wonder why a GPU like the GTX 555m that gets 1,882 points on the GS in 3dmark11 has 3gb V-ram like a GTX 780, while the GT 550m that gets 1,769 points on the GS has 1gb of V-ram? That's 6.4% performance difference, but 200% increase in V-ram, and the price to upgrade to the 555m is about 150-200$.

It's just a way to milk more money. "OMG the 555m has 3GB of V-ram (O_O)" <--- that's the reaction these companies want. IMO, the only reason why 4gb GK104 cards exist is due to the 3gb on the 7xxx series, and the only reason why 3GB 7xxx series cards exist is because AMD knows they would not sell as much as Nvidia if they have the same amount of V-ram/Bus width with them. Isn't that what competing means? rolleyes.gif

3DMARK doesnt make sa huge load to the memory.and Synthetic benchmark dont get affected by vram limit(nor a higher vram would give a higher score)

and the reason that 4gb GK104 exists is because nvidia doubles nvidia vram (so amd does)
